Hello everyone,

Currently 12 weeks pregnant with my second. From about week 8, every evening from 6pm onwards I get incredibly itchy all over my body. It's gettin so bad that I just end up going to bed early as it's making me so grumpy.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm hoping it will stop soon! Thanks :)

I'd mention this to your midwife OP, a friend of mine had this and it was something to do with her liver. They gave her medication and it helped straight away, the second baby was born the itching went away. Not saying it's the same thing but it's worth checking :)

After checking with MW as PP suggests, try using head and shoulders as a body wash in the shower. I got the tip from a mum who used it on her toddler's rash (measles or similar - please properly research before using it on a baba) Anyway, I used it on my growing bod - worst rash was chest, under boobs, baby bump and my back which all seemed to be stretching. Worked a treat - I'm 33w now and only have to use 1 a week max.

Good luck x

I would also echo speaking with your MW. I had oc with both pregnancies, first went undiagnosed (long story) second was picked up quickly and I was monitored all through. Both ended up fine but you’d need to be checked. It could also just be hormones! Good luck, I remember the relentless itching.

You should get this checked. I had same issue, it was my liver. I had HELLP syndrome and pre-eclampsia

It was undiagnosed for most of my pregnancy as kept getting fobbed off at the doctors for just being itchy.
I am lucky to be alive and so is my 7 year old, who I was carrying

Sorry to sound alarmist! Don't worry, it's usually later in pregnancy that it needs to be managed and there's lots of other things that cause itching in pregnancy

Just get it checked when possible

StargazyDrifter · 25/03/2020 23:12

I had crazy itchiness last pregnancy and it turned out to be OC. Please do have it checked as it can be quite serious in later stages, also throughly awful to live with. Hope all goes ok for you and you get timely help from the MW.

Please don't wait to you see your midwife. Ring the maternity unit today. If you do have oc it will need monitoring very carefully. I had it twice from very early on. I also had to be induced at 36 weeks for both as a precaution. Best of luck.
