best old wives tales to determine the sex?

So our NHS trust does not tell you the sex of the baby, and due to current situation, all our local private scan options are either closed or have stopped taking bookings for Gender Scans.

I really want to find out!

So what are your best suggestions for old wives tales or old fashioned ways to find out if its a boy or girl?

(nub theory won't work for us, as there is no sign of a nub on the 12 week scan photo)

I’m having a girl and all the things that have been true for me have been... the linea Nigra just going up to my belly button. My hair was more dull and dry. Got spots often (never did before). Didn’t have more hair growth on my legs and things. I have a hairy belly though? My hair has also got a red tinge!!! I’ve never had red hair. My hair is dark brown. But I googled that and some say that’s a sign of a girl? I had no morning sickness though. They are more physical I guess. The Mayan calendar said girl. And I also put weight on my bum and legs and hips. My bump is rather small actually. But they was mine. I thought it was a girl from all these things. And it was so I guess was right for me lol x

My Grandmother would use a wedding ring on a piece of thread held above the bump (mum laying down) she would then dip the hand holding the ring down about 2” holding hand really steady 3 times. After the third time she would leave her hand there and suddenly the ring would start moving ! In a circle was a girl, backwards and forwards was a boy. 99.9 % of the time it was accurate even when predicting different sex twins!
Don’t take it too seriously but interesting to see how the ring starts moving! 😊

@givemeacall I was starting to think that it was only my family that did it! It’s amazing isn’t it. I even did it before I had my last 2! I planned for 3 babies but it always said 4! There was no way I could cope with 4 but hey ho one split condom later 4 under 5s! Do not argue with the ring 😊

My old wives takes proved to be truth with both of mine

Dd- violently sick, spotty, craved sweet things, low carry bump and just drained

Ds- no sickness, higher energy, higher bump and I craved more savoury things

All of the old wives tales told me I’d be having a girl, but we’re having a boy so I can’t help!

I always used to do the ring trick (back when all my friends were pregnant) seem to remember it was surprisingly accurate!!

According to my mum, my nana said male sperm are fast swimmers, but don't last long, female sperm are slower, but float around and last longer.

Therefore, if you have sex when you're most fertile in the month it will be a boy, if you had it a bit before you're ready it will be a girl.

The Mayan and Chinese predictors reckon I'm having a girl, and I've been sick as a dog. Hoping to find out at the 20 week scan in a few weeks, so I'll be back with an update!

So one of the Chinese predictors said Girl and then another one said Boy.

I have seen something about a bicarbonate of soda test.

My skin is spotty but dry ( usually greasy in normal life). So many contradictions!

Perhaps I ought to try thing ring trick!

None worked for us they were all leading towards a boy.... 20 weeks scan came around... we are having a girl 💗 due 4 weeks tomorrow x

Everything pointed to girl for me and I'm having a girl I just knew it

Very spotty and very nauseous until about 14 weeks now touch wood having a lovely pregnancy 28 weeks

My mum believes if you carry your bump high it's a girl. Not sure how accurate that is but me and a friend both carried high and had girls!

Boy, usually neat beach ball like bump.

Girl, get fat all over, bump is wider and lower.

Last pregnancy I found a massive list of these old wives tales and we tried them all out for fun. They came out pretty much 50/50. We had a boy

As long as its just for fun and you aren't going to take the results seriously then crack on! (but none of these things actually can tell you the sex of your baby)

Well all the old wives tales and Chinese stuff said we were having a boy.

My hair was thick and luscious, my skin was amazing, my bump was frontal and not round the hips, I lost weight, boys use your reserves and girls add to them. You name it and I was having a boy. We laughed so much when she arrived 🥰💐

I posted a photo on here and everyone told me girl by the skull rather than following nub theory . Everyone was right ! We found out two weeks ago. I was convinced boy . My symptoms were also violently sick every single day numerous times from a few days before mt BFP to 10 weeks then it was replaced with migraines , I am spotty, craved sweets and ice lollies and, generally felt crappy and my bump is low. It’s my first so can’t compare but very similar to above poster with these symptoms . It’s a shame you can’t find a private that’s still open at the mo ! X

The only difference between my boy and girl pregnancies were I put on more weight and had a bigger bump with my boys. I was spottier (on my cheeks) with my girl but my hair/overall appearance looked better...

Oh and my hair is just really dry , definitely not got that glow that people talk about ! And my belly is hairy!!
