Just had my last check up with midwife and she has recorded on my notes that my baby is now 28cm fundo-symphysis height from 30cm 2 weeks ago. I now have to go for another check up in about a week. Has this happend to anyone before? Could it be because I think my baby is lying across me? My midwife didnt realy answer my questions. Please help if you can.

THis happened to me in my latest pregnancy. It still remains a mystery but my daughter is absolutely fine so try not to worry. If it persists they will send you for extra scans which is very worrying until they reveal all is fine then your mind can be put at rest. I think people just develop in different ways. very likely the baby just changed positions. if you are concerned ask for an extra scan.

This happened to me too and i had the same theory as you - baby lying sideways.

They sent me for a scan to check and baby was showing to be bigger than average for that stage of pregnancy. But when she came out 2 days before due date she was a perfect 7lb 9oz.

My tummy didn't change until the last week when it jumped up about 4cm. Which is why i think it must be more to do with baby's position. So don't panic if yours doesn't change much! Worth asking for scan though just for peace of mind, it gave me enormous relief.

Were both your babies breach or did they correct themselves ready for birth? Is there anything I should be doing exercise wise?

I was told at 28 weeks that I was measuring 28cms, at 30 weeks they said I was measuring 28cms, so I had a scan and DS2 is actually measuring bang on for dates.

mrsbutler · 10/09/2007 20:59

im nearly 34 weeks though and measuring 28cm!! is this normal?

They might ahve just measured wrong. It never seemed an exact science when I was pg with ds. He was traverse for ages BTW and moved in perfect time.

Hattie05 · 11/09/2007 10:43

Mrs Butler i was those exact measurements with my last pg. All fine i'm sure!

My first baby was breach but turned in the last fortnight. I followed mw's advice of going on all fours, sitting upright pelvis forward rather than slouching etc.

Second baby i don't think was breach but she's the one i had smaller measurements for.

Measuring the bump isn't exact as the position of the 2 'end points' (the top of the uterus & the pubic bone) are subjective, depending on which midwife measures you.
Also, it depends on the baby's position.
One week I measured larger than everage, probably due to the baby moving about & sticking his/her bum out while my bump was being measured.
At a scan the following week, the baby was measuring normal for date.

I was measuring the same measurements as you too. My baby was not breech. We never did explain why this was the case as she is quite a long baby (75th percentile). It was a real concern though so I know how you feel. UNtil you meet your baby and know all is fine it is hard to have total peace of mind- do ask for that scan if you are still worried. But do know you are not alone in experiencing this!
