Hi all, me and my partner have both been diagnosed with thrush recently (Sorry if tmi). I've been given some antifungal cream but uncertain of exactly how this shall get rid of the infection. It's chlotrimazole cream. It only says to apply the cream externally, but surely wont it still be a problem internally? And places online say there is usually tablets taken for internally which I have not been given. Is it because im pregnant or...?

When I was pregnant with DC1 I had thrush 4/5 times and I always had the internal pessary and external cream. Was fine and never caused any problems with my pregnancy.

You can use the pessary available in chemists (but they won’t sell to you if pregnant so your partner would have to go in and buy it) but you have to insert it with your finger instead of the applicator that’s all. The cream might clear up a milder infection but if it’s severe you might need the pessary too. Maybe give the cream a go for a few days and see how it goes!

You will likely need the pessary as well! Another idea after treating the thrush (esp if it comes back) is to take a probiotic such as BioKult Candea, this is specifically targeted for thrush to prevent it, and should be fine to take in pregnancy. I take it daily (am 17 weeks) as used to be prone to thrush. x
