23 Weeks, haven’t gained any weight

Hi ladies,

This isn’t supposed to come off as a ‘woe is me’ post as I know some women really struggle with the weight they gain during pregnancy!

However I’m a little concerned that I have gained NO weight yet. I’m a slightly larger lady - 5ft 3, 15 stone, BMI 37 - and I know the larger you are when you get pregnant the less weight you should gain but is it normal to be nearly 6 months pregnant and weigh the same/some days less than you did pre pregnancy?

I had my 20 week scan and everything was fine but I don’t have another growth scan till 30-32 weeks so just wondering?

My anxiety is ratcheting up quite a bit atm.. especially as I have a very slightly leaky bladder and keep convincing myself I’m leaking amniotic fluid 😂🤦‍♀️

Xx

Sorry just to add, I’m eating plenty and I didn’t get vomiting in my first trimester, just really bad diarrhoea for 3 months so nothing to really explain any weight loss!

I think perhaps your body is using stored fat for energy?

I was surprised to find myself 2ibs lighter today at 14 weeks. I haven't had an sickness or anything. It is like my body is evening itself out

Persipan · 23/03/2020 08:54

I didn't really gain anything until 20-something weeks, then shot up massively over a few weeks, and now have levelled off again and not really gained anything in 3 weeks or so. Bodies are weird, I wouldn't worry about it!

Comps83 · 23/03/2020 08:58

I lost weight . All those booze calories I wasnt consuming anymore I'm guessing
In fact I've never looked or felt better than when I was pregnant . Weight all gone back on and back to being a greasy lethargic mess again now

nicciw87 · 23/03/2020 10:59

I'm now 36weeks pregnant BMI at beginning was 40and have only gained 5lbs whole pregnancy. For me it's completely normal this is my 4th and most iv gained in any of my pregnancies is 10lbs. U do worry about everything though

MrsRose2018 · 23/03/2020 12:00

I’m quite an anxious person and I had a MC so I do worry unnecessarily!

Both my mum and my husband (lovingly I promise you!) were like “your going to be massive har har har” and I’m really not! My bump is pretty dinky/well contained as well!

The previous poster is right about the booze calories though! And whilst I’m still eating plenty our weekly takeaways have stopped...

Current situation just makes you worry more doesn’t it!

Thanks for all your posts! Very reassuring!

xx

I'm 22 weeks and a size 12, I haven't gained any weight yet. Baby is measuring great, everything good at scan so not worried.
I went off everything sweet at about 6 weeks so maybe it was that. I've also craved vegetables and eggs the last 8 weeks or so and I reckon that has curbed any weight gain.

otterturk · 23/03/2020 12:11

I think - and I don't mean this rudely - you probably have enough in reserves to not worry.

At 11 weeks and 5"4 I've gone down from 9 stone 3 to 8 stone 11, so half a stone loss due to lack of alcohol alone!

MrsRose2018 · 23/03/2020 12:41

@otterturk how dare you!! You mean I'm not a really skinny 15 stone woman?? 😂

You're right though I deffo have enough to keep him going!! It was more just wondering if he was growing ok! I'm just being a paranoid mamma

I'm in exactly the same position. I had really bad sickness up until the past week or so therefore my appetite was greatly reduced along with the fact that I couldn't keep anything down.

Midwife has seemed happy and comfortable with my lack of weight gain so far.

Caspianberg · 23/03/2020 16:02

Im usually fairly 'petite', 5'4 and around 8 stone. Hadn't gained anything at 20 week scan, gained a little between 20-25 weeks. Now 34 weeks and have gained around 14kg (over 2 stone)

I think there isn't generally that much extra 'baby' weight in the first half, my consultant said most the gain from placenta growth, baby, blood, fluids etc is in the 20-32/34 week range. Then 32- delivery is generally just increase in baby weight and boobs.

kittykat7210 · 23/03/2020 18:42

I’m 31 weeks and not gained anything yet, 5ft2 and borderline overweight but Normally UK size 8 clothing. Midwife not worried so I suppose I’m not!

WingingIt101 · 23/03/2020 23:21

Hey I’m 5’ 9” and was around 15stone at time of falling pregnant. I was doing slimming world so kept going to weigh in but without the view of trying to lose weight just to make sure I didn’t go mad and gain too much.
Week 22 of pregnancy I was a few pounds lighter than at the start 😂 wasn’t even trying to lose!
I’m now 39 weeks and waddling like a pro. Popped out really late. I wouldn’t worry about it - all my stats are absolutely fine x

Soda123x · 24/03/2020 02:38

Hi, I'm 5ft5 and weighed 15st4 at 4 weeks and stayed the same up until 26weeks. At the end of pregnancy I had gained 10lbs in total. 1 week after DS arriving I had dropped to 14st8. My DS is now 3 weeks old and I am still 14st8. He is perfectly healthy. I didnt have any sickness etc throughout the pregnancy. But like you obvs I wernt drinking and I cut out all takeaways and junkfood snacks etc...

PandaPink · 24/03/2020 07:34

I was 16st 2lbs at the start of pregnancy and I'm 21 weeks now and 15st 2lb I feel like my appetite has changed a lot. I have had sickness only about once a week now. But from 6-13 weeks it was pretty much everyday. I worry about it too but as has been said we have plenty of reserves! LOL

Cacaca · 24/03/2020 08:05

Similar to you - I actually lost weight in pregnancy - wasn’t trying too. I never gained until I was about 7 months and as soon as baby was born I was the lightest I’d been in a very long time and the weight kept falling off for about 2 months. Unfortunately that weight found it’s way back. Baby totally healthy though.

WeeScottishWife · 25/03/2020 21:47

Like many previous posters, I've not really gained much so far. I'm 5'3, fairly slim, and my pre-pregnancy weight would vary up/down by a couple of pounds quite frequently, and hasn't really increased past my 'top end' of normal weight quite yet.

That said, I'm definitely changing shape, as there's only one pair of my jeans I can still comfortably wear fully done up!
