Best time to go for early scan

Hi guys got my BFP two weeks ago, I am 6 weeks today going off last period date.

I had an early MC last October (around 5 weeks) so wanted to take the wait and see approach so have not yet contacted midwife as of yet.

When is the latest date I should contact them? I feel like this may jinx everything in some weird way

I also want to get a private scan for peace of mind but I know too early can cause more confusion, when is the best date for a private scan? I was thinking about 7.5 weeks would this be too early?

I went for an early scan at 7 weeks 6 days, so almost 8 weeks, I recommend going around then as you are most likely to hear the heartbeat then even if your dates are slightly off!
The midwife usually sees you around 8 weeks, I went to the drs at 6 weeks and they passed my details to the MW and she saw me 2 weeks later. Then she booked the 12 week scan for me there and then.
Congrats ! Xxx

@worriedfirsttimemum I had a private scan at 8+1 and they easily found a heartbeat and got a great picture on an abdominal scan, if you're quite sure on your dates 7.5 weeks would probably be fine. In my area they're behind so i m not seeing the midwife till almost 10 weeks and didn't want to wait.

If you’re absolutely certain of your dates you could go at 7 weeks - I saw a heartbeat at 7+2 but if you’re unsure I would wait a couple of weeks and go at 9 - which I’ve also done, had a scan at 9+3 and you see lots more and little one moving around. My first one was at EPU otherwise I wouldn’t have had one so early.

Thank you everyone, I think I'll ring midwife on Monday and see if I can book a private scan for 8+ weeks

I had an early scan due to some spotting and cramping at 6 weeks and saw the heartbeat. 🙂

sel2223 · 22/03/2020 13:55

I had one at 6+1 (thought I was 7+5) then another at 8+2

Try and wait to 8+ weeks if you can as there's a big difference in what you can see and you'll be able to see/hear a nice clear heartbeat by then too

You may not be able to get an early scan now, I am 8 weeks and had one booked in for yesterday but the company stopped doing all private scans on Friday

@notinthestarsigns thank you I was wondering about this! I'll have to see what my options are

@notinthestarsigns who was your appointment with?

notinthestarsigns · 23/03/2020 07:44

@DJBebe it was with Pearl Scanning on the Wirral, my appointment was on Saturday at 9:20am. On Friday morning they informed me it was going ahead but after the 5pm press conference I got a text to say all scans were cancelled with immediate effect. I was really disappointed as had been looking forward to it all week but I suppose they would say it is non-essential and are closing on that basis as all essential scans will be done by the NHS.
