Tea tree oil safe?

Wondering if anyone has and info or experiences with using tea tree oil in pregnancy?

I've used it since I was a teenager but only to dap on spots on my face and a few drops in the bath occasionally.

Since being pregnant I've had loads of break outs and occasionally put a small amount on my face before doing to bed.

I've just read an article suggesting it's dangerous to use, I'm 14 weeks now and I'm a little worried. Like I said I've only used it a few times, and never eaten or consumed it.

I very much doubt occasionally dabbing small amounts on to spots would be a problem.

The Mayo Clinic website, which is usually quite reliable, says nothing about pregnancy and suggests it is generally safe unless it is ingested. www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements-tea-tree-oil/art-20364246

I asked one of the producers of a tea tree toothpaste sold in H&B about it safety in pregnancy. All they could tell me is that there is no data on it so they cannot either recommend or not.

Then I looked into TBS tea tree line, on their website TBS says The Body Shop products are safe for use during pregnancy unless otherwise indicated on the product packaging, so maybe enquire about those specifically with them as the line is quite decent, may be better to use it dilluted in a product rather than on the skin on itw own.

Thank you both! Smile

I've had a look and the packaging doesn't say anything about not using it in pregnancy. And I've not had any of the symptoms that suggest Ive used a toxic amount, don't know if that's the right word to use but hopefully it makes sense.

I'm just going to avoid it now though, I can live without it for a few months and there I other products I can easily use to stop my spots!
