So I'm now pretty much 36 weeks pregnant and everything has gone pretty well so far. I had my last bloods taken at the doctors by my lovely midwife a week and a half ago.

I got home on Friday to find a letter from my doctors asking me to make an appointment with them as soon as possible to discuss my latest blood test results. I burst into tears as soon as I read it. My doctors obviously know that I am heavily pregnant and to send out such a letter without any further information is incredibly insensitive (or is that just me). I feel so upset for my health and that of my baby.

They are not open until 9am and if they don't give me any information over the phone, I'll have to wait until my midwife appointment on Thursday.

that is extremely insensitive. They should not have sent this letter, they should have phoned you.

Please let us know how you get on

I think you are being a bit over sensitive but then you are 36 weeks so you're allowed
If it was anythign serious they would have rung you.
It's probably just your iron levels.

MamaG · 10/09/2007 08:58

my post was crap. Sorry - sounds like i was agreeing something was really wrong! I wasn't, I meant to put what compo said

Emprexia · 10/09/2007 08:59

at 36wks i'd think its perfectly acceptable for you to make an emergency appt to go see them today!

But don't worry, really, its probably either your iron or blood sugar levels they generally don't like talking about it over the phone - so don't panic.

kaa0901 · 10/09/2007 09:06

don't stress -they just can't put results in the post but they would have phoned you if it was serious. they won't put the health of you or your baby at risk.

You are right, it was extremely insensitive.

However, please try not to worry about it too much as if there was a major problem, you would have been phoned/someone would have called at your door and asked you to go to the hospital immediately.

Hope it is all OK at the doctors - don't wait til Thursday, make them give you an answer today.

sazzybee · 10/09/2007 09:08

As someone who did have something serious show up in her bloods, they will ring you if they're really worried. It's probably iron levels or protein in your urine or something.

Try not to worry and insist on seeing someone asap

Thanks ladies. I tried to convince myself all weekend that it would be something to do with iron or similar. I have tried to get through but to no avail so far. Glad that you agree that the approach was insensitive though - I realise that my hormones are all over the joint but had I not had the support of my husband on Friday when I got the letter, I would have worked myself up into a right state

Do try not to stress too much, they would probably have called you in if it was urgent. I had exactly the same thing for my low iron levels. I would call your midwifery team too if you can't get through to your dr.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 12/09/2007 10:08

so I got through to the Doctor on Monday evening and apparently my platelet count is "very low" and they wanted to see me ASAP. I went in yesterday morning and they phoned the haemaetology department whilst I was there. They think it might be something called "Gestational Thrombosis". Took more bloods and I'm back in on Thursday for them to go through the results of my latest batch of bloods with me.

I suppose the good thing is that they want to keep a close eye on me but it was such as a scare as I had no idea as to whether, whatever the issue was, was going to affect the health of my baby.

Thanks again for the support ladies.
