Hi ladies I'm sure a lot of you are in the same boat so just wanted some advice please. As a job I am a self employed cleaner cleaning in people's homes and obviously now we are in a higher risk category I am not working due to social distancing and self isolating the best I can so I was just wondering if any of you can advise as to what (if any) benefits that I would be entitled to, it's an absolute mind field out there of information so any help and advice would be gratefully received.

Hi, I’m self employed and pregnant and need to mix with people to be able to do my work so I’ve been looking a lot into it and pretty sure we’re entitled to universal credit and / or something called ESA (employment support allowance. (I did read you can get both together, worth a try anyway) The government announced today that self employed people will be entitled to full amount of universal credit which I think I’m right in saying is equal to the statutory sick pay that employed people get. I don’t think we will have a problem getting it seeing as we have been told to avoid people so obviously can’t work. I made my claim for universal credit and now waiting for a telephone interview. Then I will ask them about the ESA. Goodluck, hope this info has helped a bit. Here’s a link I found helpful, scroll down to the self employed bit... www.gov.uk/government/publications/support-for-those-affected-by-covid-19/support-for-those-affected-by-covid-19

Here’s the link to apply online for universal credit. It takes a while but it’s fairly simple then you just wait for a telephone interview to tell them your situation. Hoping it won’t take long but I imagine they are pretty busy!

@gg321 will claiming ESA affect maternity allowance? I haven't even reached my test period yet as I'm only 13 weeks.
