Hi guys,

Hoping for a bit of info! I’m roughly 7+4 with my first baby and have had my first midwife appointment scheduled for a while although they couldn’t fit me in until I’m 9 weeks. Have just had a call to say I’ve not to attend and instead she will phone and just do the appointment over the phone on that day due to everything going on at the moment.

Completely understand that they’re trying to limit contact but are there not usually bloods and things that need done early on? Looking to hear what everyone else had done at their first appointment? Thanks!

Hi,

I’m 6 + 4 so similar to you. I received an appointment for my first midwife for when I’m 9 weeks so just under 3 weeks time. I haven’t received a call yet but I’m fearing like you it will be switched to a telephone call. I also thought you needed to have bloods etc so I don’t know! It seems like a bad time to have got pregnant xx

I didn't have any blood taken at that appointment, just my height weight and blood pressure. The rest of it was just answering questions about family medical history etc.

They did the blood tests when I went for my 12 week scan.

I am 6 weeks and got a msg from my midwife today. My 8 week appointment will now be mainly done over the phone and I will have a very brief appointment for bloods and urine tests. My partner can't come in with me either. So horrlbe but totally understandable.

KMM29 · 20/03/2020 16:11

That makes me feel better if you didn’t get bloods done at that stage, thank you! She did say I would receive a letter with a scan appointment to attend after my telephone appointment so fingers crossed all other testing will be done then!

It's all a bit up in the air just now. Just trying not to stress. Midwives are doing all they can. I think it's a bit more worrying because this is the first appointment and I have lots of questions, don't want it to be cancelled!

Cotswoldmama · 20/03/2020 16:21

Yep the first appointments just paperwork. Bloods are usually done the same day as your 12 week scan. Good luck, stay safe!

No bloods at the booking appointment, just lots of questions!

LBB2020 · 20/03/2020 16:32

I had my booking appointment on Wednesday at the hospital. It was lots of answering questions, height, weight, urine sample and blood test. I had to attend the appointment alone

KMM29 · 20/03/2020 16:33

Thanks for the reassurance guys Smile

Completely understand that the midwives have a ridiculous amount going on right now so didn’t want to phone and harass them with silly worries! Will be hiding in my house until further notice Smile

I had my bloods done at my 12 week scan, the booking appointment was done at my house, it was just medical history and a lot of form filling.

I’m 11 weeks and I had my booking appointment on Monday, only 2 hours before the announcement about our increased risk status. My scan is not until next week. I had bloods done, urine sample taken and carbon monoxide test. This is my first pregnancy and I am classed as a low risk pregnancy so thought that all of this would be done routinely? Maybe it varies from area to area how they do it.

BabyDancer · 20/03/2020 21:23

I had blood, urine and blood pressure tested at my booking in appointment. I guess it must vary depending on the location. I was 5 weeks at the time.

Doveyouknow · 20/03/2020 21:37

Mine booking in appointment was just paperwork and questions plus blood pressure. Bloods etc were done at the scan appointment. I think for the booking in they normally prefer you to go alone
