I don't know why but it gets to me soooooo much!!
I am a naturally slim person, I have HG and literally haven't put an ounce of fat on my body, I just have a bump.

I'm 30 weeks and bump is measuring as should be and baby is 50th centile so I could understand if I was actually measuring bigger than I should...but people are still like OMG YOUR MASSIVE. Someone just asked me how long i've got left and I said 10 weeks and she was like jesus christ!!

Personally I don't think i'm actually that big, but it makes me feel soooo self concious. Does anyone else get proper offended or am I just being sensitive?

OP posts:

No, it’s weird that folk feel the need to comment. The cleaning lady in work... Friend I hadn’t seen in while...
I’m happy with my bump / weight. The only opinion that matters is mine (and the midwife!)

OddshoesOddsocks · 20/03/2020 10:50

It’s the people who think it’s ok to ‘jokingly’ call you ‘Fatty’ that gets me! When would that ever be socially acceptable?! Bugger off!

Cazzy198 · 20/03/2020 13:45

I'm 31 weeks and I've had colleagues jokingly refer to me as fatty for a while and are always surprised when I say how long I have left.

I've found it's mostly men that say im huge whilst other females say I look small/normal.

Yes it gets to me but my midwife isn't concerned and my husband isnt either and their the 2 opinions other than my own that count the most to me

OrganzaLopez · 20/03/2020 23:16

Ive had that, too. Tell them to fuck off.

DrSheldonCooperPHD · 21/03/2020 00:11

Oh god when I was about 36 weeks with my twins people would stop me all the time and ask "christ it looks like you're having twins!" And would then be really sheepish when I told them that i actually was.

Someone also told me I was the funniest looking fat pregnant person they had ever seen.. to be fair I was 5ft2 and the size of a house.

enchantedspleen · 21/03/2020 02:49

Went to a family party about a fortnight ago, saw an uncle and, across the room, in front of everyone-
"YOU SURE ITS NOT TWINS?!? YOU'RE HUGE!!!"
Another rando distant relative I haven't seen for years-
"Are you sure you're due in May? You'll never reach that! You got your dates wrong!" This conversation went on for about ten minutes...

I'm 5"2, size 8 and very petite, so I'm all bump (and some hip now Blush ) and actually very sensitive about my size. Midwife is happy, I'm well within the norm, so they can take a flying leap!

alexdgr8 · 21/03/2020 02:56

to make any comment at all about another's appearance is very bad manners in my book.
my family would never dream of doing that, so nor would i.
i'm afraid some of these people have not been brought up properly, or have had bad examples which they've copied.
take no notice. it is their ignorance. they literally dont know how to behave. good luck to you and yours.

Firstbaby2019x · 21/03/2020 03:35

I saw an Instagram post the other day on this topic from Milly Mackintosh (of TOWIE fame). Check it out - it rang true to me.

I find you can't win. I think some people are not empathetic and not aware of the impact of what they are saying. Also everyone carries differently so many have unrealistic expectations about what's normal size.

As long as you and baby are healthy, just embrace your own pregnancy and filter out the nonsense as much as possible.

AmputatedSoul · 21/03/2020 03:42

Drives me mad too.
I'm 34 weeks, baby is measuring +95 percentile and I have extra fluid so yes, I'm rather large, which I know and don't need people to point out for me!
It's the "are you sure there's only one in there? There could be one hiding behind the other you know!" comments that piss me off.
I think it would have shown on a scan by now if there was more than one Hmm
Everyone becomes an expert when you become pregnant and it's worse when baby is here IMHO with the unwanted advice.
People should bugger off and mind their own!

pottypotamus · 21/03/2020 13:34

I used to get the opposite, oh you're tiny, are you sure about your due date? I was huge when I was at the same stage as you. Blah blah
Used to make me feel so bad that I had somehow failed to grow my baby enough but since then I've learned I just make small babies.

Everyone else can do one.

sprite25 · 22/03/2020 08:03

This drives me mad, currently 40+1 and yes I'm huge but I have a human in me! Since about 30 weeks EVERYTIME my neighbour has seen me he's said 'definitely quads in there'....... Every..... Single...... Time.....
I'm pregnant I have an excuse to be huge, his excuse for being so fat???

Dozer · 22/03/2020 08:05

I remember this: people can be so rude!

DC1 people said bump was huge. DC2 people said bump was small. I felt Angry and Sad both times.

RhymingRabbit3 · 22/03/2020 08:09

I've had people say I look big and other people say I look small! Basically nobody actually has a very good idea of how big you "should" look when pregnant- which makes sense because everyone is different - but they just can't stop themselves from making a comment!

Bellebp · 22/03/2020 08:36

I had a small bump for all three of my pregnancies. Rock solid and very uncomfortable. Had a number of sizing scans near the end due to midwives worrying and general consensus was low fluid and small baby. Mine were 7.10, 8.3 and 8.10 so not small at all. When I was in labour with my third the midwife bet it would be 6lbs and was convinced she was always spot on! If it’s any consolation my bump was gone immediately after birth!

Russell19 · 22/03/2020 10:39

Its annoying when people ask about twins and due dates. I had people saying I was big but also people saying I was small. They have no idea that's why.

What I don't understand is when people say they are self conscious about getting a bump because they don't want to be fat. Errrrr you're having a baby!!!! Your stomach will grow!!!! Hmm (not aimed at you OP)
