What’s I expect | 16wk midwife apt

I’m pregnant with our first baby, and expecting a baby girl 👧🏼 DH and I are absolutely over the moon and baby is doing great (had the gender scan on Monday this week). I have my 16 week midwife apt tomorrow and just wondering what to expect ? I’m almost 17 weeks, and I’m in the U.K., do they listen to the HB at these appointments?
I haven’t felt proper movements yet but I know she is ok as she was wriggling around on the scan and doing flips ! I have felt a few ‘bubbles’ but that’s about it . So it would be nice to hear the HB and know she’s still ok . I have my anomaly scan on 9th April which seems forever away and I’ve only just had a scan, I seem to be getting through this pregnancy one scan at a time lol

Thanks in advance

It seems to vary between places whether they will listen to the heartbeat or not at the 16 week appointment. Lots of them (including the one I went to) do not, as it can be hard to find sometimes, which then understandably stresses some mums a bit. At my appointment, they took my blood pressure again, and a urine sample, and talked through the results of the blood test I'd had done. She also repeated quite a few of the general questions from the earlier appointment I'd been to, like had I thought about breastfeeding, did I drink at the moment. It took about half an hour but I think some people have shorter ones.

Mine was pretty short, they tested my blood pressure and urine. Checked my results from the first blood test then listened to the baby's heartbeat, which was just amazing. All was done in about 15 mins.
I didn't realise they do not always listen to the heartbeat.

Mine was pretty uneventful. They only looked at my booking in blood results and did my blood pressure, nothing else. No urine test and no listening to the heartbeat. It seems to vary.

Had mine on Monday, it was only about 15 mins at most, done a urine test, blood pressure and then listened to baby's heartbeat, although midwife said it may not be possible. But we heard it. Smile

Congratulations!

Mine was pretty pointless, they did urine check and blood pressure and asked me if I felt safe at home and had I felt the baby move yet. They no longer check heartbeat at this appointment - they did in my last pregnancy so that was disappointing x

Not much! I got my urine checked and BP taken. Wasn't asked anything else but had some questions so I asked them. I was probably in 10 mins

In our area at the moment you’d have your appt cancelled and a phone call instead so don’t be disappointed if they don’t actually see you

Thanks everyone , I’ll let you know what happens :)

Midwife apt was a waste of time really. it wasn’t my usual midwife and she refused to listen to heartbeat as she said it’s hard to find under 25 weeks and just causes anxiety 😕 I wasn’t there long . Oh well

That’s our policy here too @GaaaaarlicBread we don’t try to listen in until the 25 week appointment because often it’s very difficult to hear at 16 weeks so rather than reassuring women it can have the opposite effect

jessholwood · 20/03/2020 21:57

Just the same here. Blood pressure and urine sample then went over blood results
