Hello Everyone,

I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and I suddenly feel very overwhelmed.

I don't know how we are going to get everything ready for the baby with all this going on ... like buying baby things in shops (prams, car seats, cots etc.). I'm a first time mum and I don't know when the latest is we can leave buying baby things until?

I'm so worried about being able to buy food, we can't get any online food orders for weeks on end so my husband will have to be the one going to supermarkets. But how will this work if we're supposed to be socially distancing ourselves?

I have my 20 week scan on Thursday, I was anxious already but this is just too much. I'm so worried for my mental health. I'm sure there others out there feeling the same and suppose I'm posting this to find people to talk to about it - let's face it we've become prisoners in our own homes overnight.

I am trying to hold out hope things might improve and we won't have to do this for 12 weeks ....

Hello,

I haven't read all the messages, but as a mum of 2 on my 3rd pregnancy, I thought I would send you a list of what I think are indispensable items for the first few months of baby's life that you should probably have before the baby is born.
You should be able to order everything online (it doesn't matter if the goods won't be delivered for a while, fortunately you have plenty of time still).

  • Nappies in the first few sizes (they outgrow them very quickly), wipes, cotton wall, flannels, muslins
  • vests and grows
  • fitted and loose sheets for the cot and Moses basket
  • thermometer, calpol, teething gel
  • dummies
  • swaddling blanket
  • changing mat

In terms of furniture and equipment, the following are a must:

  • cot and/or Moses basket
  • car seat
  • pram
  • bouncy chair

If you are thinking of bottle feeding, you will also need:

  • steriliser
  • bottles
  • formula - make sure to buy powder and a few cartons of ready made too
  • bottle brush

I would probably suggest giving breastfeeding a go, but it may calm you to know you have some bottles and a tin 'just in case'

I can't think of anything else that can't wait until after the baby is born...

@alesha01 We just got the pram delivered today and I really want to build it up Hmm I think it’s gonna prove hard not to for another 6 weeks! X

Just an update on those ladies booked in for home birth - in my area they have now been suspended. I expect it will be the same in other areas

It is my right not to go to hospital to deliver so I am currently looking at other options.

Hey everyone, I am nearly 18 weeks and havent bought anything at all except for a Chicco next-to-me crib as it was an amazing deal on FB market place. I didn't think I should be buying anything until at least 20 weeks so obviously have waited! Nice to know we are all in this together and I really feel for mums who are further along... I am holding out hope that by end August this will be over... but it may not be!
@sel2223 I am also worried about the NCT classes being cancelled! Also a first time mum, no idea what to do with a baby... when are yours booked for? I'm hoping by July, when ours are, we will be able to go... I also hired a doula but if they are only allowing one birth partner this will obviously not work :(
@anotherypasswordtoremember thank you for your list of recommendations! I am also going to do the PBC digital pack :) I also bought some pregnancy yoga classes from Lucy Flow, i realise there are free ones but she seems really good and feel so much better that I now have some pregnancy yoga to do. I'll also check out youtube etc.
@BlueBlazerBlack thank you for your list of essentials! I'm going to copy it down :)
