To sweep, or not too sweep?

I’m being offered my first sweep this week at 40 + 1. I would be curious to hear others experiences of them.

They haven’t worked for girls I’ve known and they said they found them quite uncomfortable. I’ve also heard that they can make you feel like you are in labour and then a couple of days later the cramps and contractions disappear.

Just weighing up my options right now.

I’m 100% having mine next week. Frankly, I’d try anything 😂

Last pregnancy, a sweep worked for me. I had it at 11pm on Monday night (was in MAU with reduced movement), I started with moderate contractions about 3am, they start/stopped throughout the day but they were full blown by 7pm. The sweep also broke my waters (slow leak) so I’d have ended up induced within 24 hours!

It was uncomfortable but not horrific. Pregnancy is blooming uncomfortable anyway! It hurt a lot less than the constant & awful rib pain I get in pregnancy!

Oh gosh I'd try anything right now! 39 weeks tomorrow! I had two sweeps with my first child they didn't work for me but they do for others i have had friends that have had them and it's worked! I don't remember it being particularly bad to be honest or that painful after xx

I'm 38 weeks and not due to see my midwife until 39+2, but I'm planning to decline a sweep if it's offered.
I'm not convinced it's really effective. I don't want the discomfort, the risk of her accidentally breaking my waters or introducing an infection.

Sweep at 40+4, baby 28 hours later. Wasn't painful, less uncomfy than a smear, worked a treat.

I had a sweep at 40+3, started latent labour that night and had the baby the following night. I've always found smears painless so I'd have to say it was more uncomfortable than a smear for me, but no worse than mild period pain.

I ended up having 5!!!!!! None worked. Id get cramps that would be strong but then they'd fade away. I can't believe I kept going back for more lol. But another person in my NCT group had one and her baby came within 24hrs.
