How long did you wait to get back on the horse? Lol.

I gave birth to our DD 11 days ago and after maybe day 4 or 5 I started to feel horny again, which at first seemed an impossibility lolGrin however I was still sore and healing and bleeding so obviously didn’t do anything about it.
I had minor grazes and I didn’t have any stitches. Everything is all healed now, besides the tiniest bit of bruising, and my bleeding had slowed right down during the last couple of days and has now stopped. Whoop! So with this, I feel comfortable in trying out with DTD with fiancé again... but what about infection? Our contraception method is not condoms as not only do we hate them lol, they really irritate me. So normally he will, you know, ‘let off his fireworks’ inside😂😂 but the cervix is still not closed right? So would sperm find itself in there and cause problems? What about if he pulled out? They don’t tell you about any of this stuff, even if discreetly lol... so please advise! Thank you!

There’s still a risk you can get pregnant. Don’t think this can’t happen! It’s still possible for women to get pregnant soon after birth so sort some contraception out.

The pull out method also isn’t a reliable method of contraception so unless you’re not bothered about getting pregnant again so quickly then go for it.

The health visitor should have talked about contraception post birth.

Personally I didn’t feel ready for about four months.

@DontBe oh yes I’m aware of the pregnancy risk, thank you Smile I’ve got contraception sorted as we’re not quite ready for number 2 yet lol! I’m just thinking on the infection sides of things as they haven’t shed any light on that at all, nor to wait for 6 weeks

So first things first is that contraception is VITAL even if you are breastfeeding. Im not sure whether they'd want to fit a coil so soon, and i don't know if you can BF on the pill, if you are BFing... I'd recommend condoms, thats what we used when we got back to it (4 weeks, i think). I used to find them v irritating too, and then realised im allergic to latex - we switched to Skyns and now no discomfort at all.

All I'd say about the bleeding is that it can be misleading, i thought i had stopped several times but it always caught me by surprise! So i wouldn't count your chickens on that front.

Id say, wait at least a week til youve stopped bleeding, check with your HV and use condoms, then get additional contraception locked down ASAP. Then enjoy your husband again!

Unless you want a set of Irish Twins, you need to sort out your contraception soonest. As for getting back on the horse, the general clinical guidelines are as soon as you feel ready, providing any tears, scratches, nicks or scars are healed up (vaginal delivery only). As previous posters have said, sometimes the lochia discharge can be erratic so you might want to wait for that to fully settle down first.
