What did baby’s first movements feel like to you?

I’m 18 weeks 5 days and since about 16 weeks I’ve felt like I might be feeling movements but now I’m really not sure.

I keep getting either a bubble pop type feeling or a twitch type feeling below my belly button but I lm really not sure if that’s it now!

It’s my first baby so no idea what I’m meant to be looking for really.

I’ve felt it on both sides of my belly as well whereas I thought it would just be one as the baby is small, it seems to change side every day:

Mine felt like an involuntary muscle twitch from what I remember!

KitKat1985 · 16/03/2020 12:49

I'd describe it more like 'fluttering's' at first, like a butterfly was in my tummy.

OhNoNoNoNotThatOne · 16/03/2020 12:51

Mine felt like bubbles popping too. Such a strange sensation! Like gas, but not if that makes sense?

Kl129 · 16/03/2020 13:03

@ohnonononotthatone yes I’ve been convincing myself it’s just gas recently as I really can’t tell! I wish I knew for sure

At different times I felt both popping and fluttering feelings. Took me a while to figure out what it was. It's a great feeling and only gets better (until the end and it gets a bit tight, I remember telling my tummy off towards the end as I could stretch in different ways anymore)

sarahc336 · 16/03/2020 13:18

Like little tiny tickles from inside so I think yes your feeling the baby Grin xx

Ourfamily · 16/03/2020 13:21

In the politest way possible, mine felt like gas! 😝 it was very odd but I just knew it was little kicks! I'm 23 weeks pregnant now and it is definitely elbows and legs flying everywhere!

MySofaHasACatOnIt · 16/03/2020 13:23

Bubbles popping to start with then fluttering. Usually only felt it when I lay down in bed on my back at night

Persipan · 16/03/2020 13:26

Like being pinged with a tiny, tiny elastic band.

erised · 16/03/2020 13:47

I second the elastic band feeling. Also felt like heart palpitations in my stomach.

CircleofWillis · 16/03/2020 14:00

Bubbles popping for me too.

elQuintoConyo · 16/03/2020 14:03

Butterfly wings here, laying on my back during a storm . I hadn't read about what month you can feel baby or anything, just thought 'wtf is that?' and then my brain kicked in!

By 8 months it was pointy knees, heels, elbows poking away and his bum bouncing up and down on my pelvic floor like it was a trampoline. He is now 8 years old and I am still wincing at the memory Grin

theruffles · 16/03/2020 14:37

It felt like bubbles popping at first. I wasn't sure that it was the baby moving but it got stronger. When I was further along it felt like involuntary muscle spasms. Wait until you feel them having hiccups - so strange but reassuring at the same time. My DD got hiccups all the time while I was pregnant!

Isthistrueor · 16/03/2020 14:42

Bubbles popping very low down.

MrsRose2018 · 16/03/2020 14:54

Ahhh I literally had those bubbly feelings at about 18 weeks in fact I think I posted on here asking that exact question 😂 I thought it was wind as well! Like the gurgles you get before you go to the toilet (or fart 😂).

Im 22 weeks now and they have progressed from little ‘twitches’. Like... you know those little ‘ticks’ you get in your eye? Like that but low down in my belly at 20 weeks and full on pokes on the inside now, especially on my bladder! ! It’s really weird :)

Xx

Baby00 · 16/03/2020 16:52

Ah I've been wondering the same. I had a few flutters, it's now progressed to an elastic band being pinged as a PP described - I have not been sure how to describe it, but this sums it up well! I still keep doubting myself though. I'm nearly 19 weeks.
