Mum has a cough, should I still visit?

Hello,

I am currently 30 weeks pregnant with my first. Sadly my mum was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal lung cancer in August last year. She had a bad dry cough so many many months before she was diagnosed as she is a lifetime smoker and partially this was due to her cancer.

She has undergone Chemo and more recently radiotherapy in February. Her cough cleared up and she appears to be doing well.

I am due to visit her at the end of the month and whilst on the phone to my Dad, I heard her coughing in the background. I asked my dad about this and he said she has had the cough again for a week and he believes its left over from a cold she had around that time. He said the dr told her that because her immune system is compromised, any cough as a result of a cold lingers on.

He is totally unconcerned by this and now I have to decide whether I think it's safe to visit her. I'm inclined to believe it's either smokers cough/cancer/cold rather than COVID19 but is it worth the risk??

I want to see my mum as I have no way of knowing how long she has left and want to spend as much time as possible with her but I also now have a little child inside me to consider and my health too.

Thoughts?

Well, the advice is to isolate for 7 days with a cough (as it’s believed cv is not contagious 7 days after symptoms begin) so it should be ok to visit by the time you’re due there are the end of the month.

TBH I’d be more concerned about possibly giving the virus to her...but that’s her decision.

If she self isolates for the 7 days and the cough clears up and she has no other COVID symptoms, should be safe but yes I'd worry about bringing the virus in to her

You're due to visit at the end of the month??? Surely this is a bit early to be worrying?
