Nappies for newborn - how many should I buy?

My new baby is due in six weeks’ time. Given the current situation, how many nappies would you buy now (and in what sizes?)

I’m planning on EBF but was going to get some of those readymade bottles of formula just in case. How many do you think I’ll need of those?

I don’t want to stockpile but equally do need to make sure that I have adequate supplies at home, just in case the supermarkets run out.

We are in a similar situation - our baby is due any day now. We picked up some size 1 and size 2 nappies and thought once baby arrives we would pick up the size we need. Unfortunately because of what's going on I also am worried that there won't be any nappies due to people stock piling. I am looking into reusable nappies and am not sure if that's something you've thought of?

I think it depends on the size of the baby..we bought some size 1 and she was born tiny so even newborn ones were too big and she had them for a very long time..I was BF and we went through about 10-12 nappies a day, sometimes more..I think even if you buy few extra packs of the next size up....you will use them up eventually..hopefully people will stop buying things like crazy in next few weeks..I used to buy those pampers mega packs from Tesco, when on sale, I think 72pcs and I think they lasted for about a week (-+)

I would look into reusable ones if you can afford it.

I've bought 72 size 1s for the first week or so and then planning to use washable ones.

I remember DD growing out of size 1 quite quickly and being in size 2 for ages so have bought a large pack of size 1 and a jumbo (240) pack of size 2 from Amazon.

Also planning to EBF but have bought 4 bottles of ready made formula just in case.

I would recommend getting a breast pump rather than stocking up on formula as if there's any issue with your baby latching you can bottle feed with breast milk.

I would like to use reusable nappies, but if your baby is getting through 10-12 nappies a day (as per the poster above) is it even possible?

my son was in size 1's for a month. 6lbs baby at birth

We used roughly 10-12 size 1 pamper nappies a day. Good luck :)

With the reusable it can be difficult if you get a "poopy" newborn who does need 10 a day. But you can still use them to cut down the amount of disposables you go through - e.g. by using disposables only at night you would halve the number used. Alternatively you either buy a lot or wash every day.
