Thrush - soooooo painful!

A few weeks back I had leucocytes +++ in my urine when my mw took a sample. Was sent off and found no UTI but did have thrush. Didn't really have symptoms at the time but was prescribed Canesten Combi. Used pessary no probs.

Since then the external pain has got a lot worse. Applying the cream regularly but in agony when I wee and just generally very, very sore.

I've gone up to the pharmacy and got another pessary but just wondered if anyone else has suffered similar? I'm 29 weeks.

I haven't suffered in my pregnancy but over the years I've had chronic/reoccurant thrush so I know how uncomfortable you must be.

I think it's time you give the doctors or midwife a call, it doesn't sound like the treatment you are having is aggressive enough. if nothing else they'll be able to give you a prescription instead of you having to buy it.

Are you doing the recommended things: no tight trousers, breathable pants etc.
For some instant relief you could try an ice pack?

@edin16 Aw thank you. It really is horrible, isn't it? I've started to get it more over the last few years or so, I wonder of it's to do with getting older (I'm 39).

I'm going to try the second pessary tonight and hoping it improves, but seeing my homebirth midwife on Wednesday (hopefully, unless she has to cancel once again) so will ask for her advice if it's not cleared up.

I am a bit naughty as I live in leggings underneath work clothes - I'm a SEN teacher and they are just soooooo practical and comfy. Have been in cotton "granny pants" since second trimester and not having sex with my OH currently as he's currently got a catheter in situ folowing emergency spinal surgery.

Between us we are falling to pieces! Grin

I feel your pain, I’ve got thrush at the moment and the pharmacist wouldn’t sell me the pessary due to being pregnant?!
I’m so uncomfortable and grumpy!

RainMinusBow · 14/03/2020 20:36

@LBB2020 You can definitely have the pessary when pregnant, my GP did my first prescription for it. You just are advised not to use the applicator but push it in yourself.

I was quite shocked at the pharmacist today tbh. She didn't ask if I was or could be pregnant (had my coat on so not obvious) and she even offered me the tablet which I know you are not allowed in pregnancy!

Thank you, I might go again tomorrow and lie if she asks again! I’m so sore and uncomfortable Sad

The thrush cream dries my skin so I apply a moisturise in between the times I use the thrush cream. I just use the one gp prescribed me as I Blush I knew something was not right but was very relieved when I found out for me it was only dry skin. The moisturiser really did help.
