Could I be pregnant?

Hi all

I take Noriday (mini-pill) but recently missed a full week between days 22-29 of a normally 30 day cycle. I had unprotected sex once on day 24 and am now 3 days late. I did a pregnancy test on 2 days before period was due and it was negative. Given everyone’s different experiences and journeys I was wondering if it is possible that I could be pregnant or if missing the week of Noriday could have just messed up my cycle? Thank you!

Yes you could be pregnant. Yes you could have messed up your cycle You'll need to test again.

If you are trying to avoid pregnancy you probably should consider another or additional form of contraception.

Thanks @MsPavlichenko - I don’t know if I should test again in the morning or wait a few days. Reading some posts on here, some get negatives for nearly a week after their period is due 🙈 I’m fortunate enough that if we are lucky enough to be pregnant it would be a huge surprise but still delighted.

@Funnygirl it takes one mis-timed pill or missed pill to enable ovulation in the case of mini pill.

If you stopped taking the pill on day 22 for a week, you could have ovulated in that window. Also any sperm can live in your body for a number of days awaiting ovulation and fertilise an egg.

Hence from what you describe, you could have ovulated any time between day 22 and the week following. If you had sex on day 24, then it is quite possible you could have become pregnant.

It takes then up to 2 weeks from conception/implantation for pregnancy to be detected. Hence from what you describe, a pregnancy may not be detectable on day 33 (is that where you are?), and may take another week or two.

Good luck! It could just be that your cycle has been thrown from missed pills also.

Thanks @SarahD19 I was worried that I was overreacting about the possibility (after the normal Googling of likelihood’s 🙄) but I feel reassured that I’m right to be testing. Yes I’m on day 33 now

From what you've said here you absolutely might be pregnant. You are right to keep testing!

@Funnygirl it may well be a messed up cycle, but if you only conceived a week ago or even only a few days ago (quite possible as conception often takes a few days after sex), then you could still be pregnant but not producing enough hormone for the pregnancy test to detect. It takes generally around two weeks after conception for pregnancy to be detected on a standard test. Even if you are pregnant, you may still be waiting over a week for the pregnancy to be detected. Some people find even at 5-6 weeks pregnant (3-4 weeks after conception) they only get a faint line.

@SarahD19 I never appreciated the amount of patience people need to have in these situations before 🙈 I’ve felt off the last few days, with headaches, cramping which started yesterday but didn’t feel like how I normally feel before my period, I was wide awake all last night for absolutely no reason and I have such a strange taste in my mouth 🙈 it could be all in my head!

Just as an update, I did another test yesterday morning which was still negative. I had an online doctors appt yesterday also and given the dates she advised that her feeling is that I could be pregnant given I have always had regular periods on Noriday. I’m even more confused now as I don’t know when to test next or if I should stop taking Noriday now 😔

I am on noriday since july and cant say a bad word about it, previously was on cerazette and wasnt really agreeing with ny body.
Lately i have been over my 3h window as work got really busy and sometimes had to stay in late. Started to get really tender and sore boobs but only at evening times, and really vad pain in my lower back almost at my tailbone area and felt bit nauseous. Couple od days ago i missed one pill and took it next day (afternoon) but had unprotected sex in between that time. Next day i got some blood which is still here, im not sure if its because i missed one pill?
