Anyone having twins? I’m only 7 weeks today but found out a couple of dats ago I’m having non-identical twins. What symptoms have you had and how do you feel about it? I’m delighted but terrified!

Congratulations! Twins are awesome!! Ours are now 5. We had non-identical boys. You’ll get scanned more often so will get to see your babies lots before they’re born. I remember crying for a full day the day after finding out - think it was the shock! Get lots of rest in the early days, I remember being wiped out.
Good luck!

Bubble29 · 12/03/2020 21:58

Congratulations . Currently 12+5 and we are also expecting non identical twins. We found out at our private scan at 9 weeks. We then had a scan at 10 weeks and 12 weeks. Our next scan isn't until 15weeks.

Totally terrified! Tbh, it hasn't sunk in for me at all! I'm in denial I'm pregnant let alone carry twins.

Honestly, week 5-10 were awful, with the worse at week 9! Constant nausea, sickness, tmi but dodgy morning belly. From last week Ive been hit and miss, I'll have a really good day followed by a day of nausea. As soon as I get hungry it's game over and I just feel terrible.

I'm hoping this passes soon though!

How are you feeling?

HarrietM87 · 13/03/2020 10:28

Congratulations! I don’t know whether I’m having twins but will find out next week at my early scan. I had ovulation induction and released 4 eggs so my dr said there is a good chance of twins. I would be delighted so will see! Only 5+2 today and feeling basically fine but had much earlier and stronger positive pregnancy tests than with my son (who is nearly 2).

thethirdbar · 13/03/2020 13:10

congratulations! i think excited + terrified is a pretty standard reaction. Grin

we found out we were having twins at an early scan on 19th December and i am still not sure i've come to terms with it to be honest! i was only 'planning' for one baby ever so it was a huge shock, i couldn't describe myself as excited at all at first. i am much more positive now but it took me a while to feel on an even keel.

i'm now 20+5 with DCDA twins - found out on wednesday that they're girl+boy which is pretty excellent. Smile

my pregnancy has so far been everything i had hoped it wouldn't be i'm afraid! i'm exhausted, i am still feeling and being sick pretty much daily, everything is so much effort, i have pelvis pain... it's such great fun ha ha. i'm already counting down the days.

now we've had our 20week scan though and everything is fine i think we're going to start buying things and preparing more which i am looking forward to and i think will make things seem more 'real'. i just can't get my head around the concept that we'll have two tiny humans to keep alive! tbh though i think i would be feeling largely the same about one baby - it's all so abstract when its your first time regardless of how many are in there.

Piglet11 · 13/03/2020 13:37

Thank you for all your responses and congratulations everyone!

Unfortunately for me I can’t see myself enjoying this pregnancy. The reason I had my early scan is because I had been bleeding on and off. After having the scan I was absolutely delighted but now I’m back to just being worried. Ithe bleeding which had subsided is back. I also feel like I have been kicked in the vagina and I’m having pain in my Lower right abdomen. I’m sure these are just pregnancy feelings but with the bleeding it has me worried. Where you provided with information about twin pregnancy’s from your clinics? X

Hi All, did you have any specific symptoms before you found out you are having twins? I’m asking because I have family history of identical twins so I’m not surprised if I’m pregnant with twins but obviously I won’t know until my 12 weeks scan.

If I tell my midwife at my first appointment about the family history of having twins, would they scan me a bit earlier?

Bogoffrain · 13/03/2020 13:58

@ JM0934 Identical twins are not genetic/hereditary so you should be ok to just have a normal Scan

JM0934 · 13/03/2020 14:05

@Bogoffrain Ok thank you! Grin

Bogoffrain · 13/03/2020 14:16

No problem, it’s just the non identical ones that are genetic on the female line (the women just produce more eggs). People also often say I could have twins as DH is a twin but no man can influence how many eggs a woman releases. Congratulations on your pregnancy x

Jemstar33 · 13/03/2020 16:02

Hi all,

I'm 29+2 with boy/girl twins.
I've had a lovely pregnancy so far and hoping it continues. I've not had any sickness etc.

My pregnancy test was very dark very early on but apart from that I had no other symptoms that would suggest.

I'm also terrified but soooo excited xx

Conny848 · 13/03/2020 16:31

Congratulations, Piglet. Sorry to hear you're having bleeding and pain and that you're worried. Speak to someone (gp or midwife) as they'll probably be able to reassure you. Bleeding and pain can be normal and can settle, so try not to worry.
You'll have extra scans and extra appointments, and youll be monitored more, you'll have consultant led care, and won't be able to deliver on a midwifery led unit.
It's normal to feel terrified. I cried for weeks when I was told at the first scan that I was having twins. I was worried about being a mum anyway, and looking after 2 babies felt overwhelming. Yes some things were harder with 2, but somethings were easier and the positives of having twins easily outweighs the hard bits. Take lots of advice from parents of twins as they have lots of good tips to share.

FlashesOfRage · 13/03/2020 20:08

Congratulations @Piglet11 🥳

I’m 6+4 and had an early scan yesterday after a bleed the day before. Discovered we’re having non-identical twins too!
(For transparency; we did IVF and they only offered to put both of our embryos back as a) I only made 3 eggs in the first place and b) they believed one of them had an ok chance and the other effectively none!)

My consultant (who has twins of his own) said that spotting and light bleeding is just kind of par for the course in twin pregnancies. I’m getting scanned again in two weeks.

I should have guessed because I felt very dramatic fatigue from 4+1 and all day nausea since 5+0 Confused.
I’ve also had; headaches, sharp boob pains, tender nipples, round ligament twinges, runny nose... probably forgot something lol

Basically I thought I was being a right weakling and wondered how everyone else manages so well but it turns out the symptoms may have been a bit more extreme! Xx

Piglet11 · 14/03/2020 08:44

@Jemstar33 congratulations!

@Conny848 thanks a lot for your reassurance, I am over the moon it’s twins. I have been trying for children for a lot of years so it couldn’t be better really- well if I wasn’t bleeding.

Oh my goodness @FlashesOfRage, we are so similar! Mine was also ivf, well get actually. They do not do transfers of more than one embryo at a time but during the thawing process for my embryos, the first lost 20% of its cells (unusually), so they took another one out which died completely. They asked us what we wanted to do, they said the first embryo (with the loss of cells) only had a tiny chance of implanting. It. Was decided to take out final one out of the freezer and unfortunately (and completely unexpected by the embryologist) 30% of the cells died. Given that there was a tiny to no percentage chance of one let alone both sticking they put them both back. And amazingly they both stuck!

My worries are the continuing bleeding accompanied by the different aches and pains that probably come with pregnancy. It is my first pregnancy and I am a size 6. Is it normal to get ligament pain so early on? I can’t seem to find much info on twin pregnancies.

Sorry I meant ‘fet’ not ‘get’ when I was explaining what my situation was

Hi all. 14+2 with DCDA twins - no fertility treatment or assisted conception but a very strong family history, so not entirely a surprise either.

It may also be because I'm so old (42) and have so many existing medical conditions (too many to list in one post) but am definitely finding this pregnancy the hardest yet: I have three already and have had one MC. Totally crippling fatigue, vile nausea amd constipation and already all of the aches and pains that only started at 30+ weeks before. So all I can bring to this thread is my solidarity. And perhaps some hope.

FlashesOfRage · 15/03/2020 00:13

Ahh what a story @Piglet11 ! I’m so glad to hear you beat those odds and got such great news after the scariness of the unfortunate thawings 🙏

I’m the opposite to you in one way lol! I’m a size 16 (but tall at least 👌) and yes I’ve been having all kinds of aches like you describe. I had ligament pains starting from 4+4 and I think it’s just normal for twins to give you double the stretching pangs!
I also have a retroverted uterus that by the scan at 6+3 was already most of the way over to anteverted!!! So I’m imagining the round ligament pains were my uterus getting hoisted lol 😂

My consultant really stressed that unfortunately bleeding and spotting just might be our lot. I’m having ongoing brownish/burgundyish spotting since the bleed a few days ago.

He said not to worry unless it is accompanied by pain (especially pain that paracetamol doesn’t touch), vomiting (if different to morning sickness), larger clots or bleeding that fills a pad in an hour.

You can always email them with updates for reassurance 👍 I’m sure they’re totally used to it! xxx

FlashesOfRage · 15/03/2020 00:15

@LapsedVeganAcademic 💐

Congrats on your unexpected twins! Sorry you’re having a shit time of it, I’m already at the crying my eyes out at buggerall stage haha ❤️

You’re doing great and I think you just have to give yourself some credit for the double task you’re doing ❤️

Piglet11 · 15/03/2020 09:02

Thank you everyone for your reassurance and congratulations everyone who has joined!

My bleeding is similar to yours now @FlashesOfRage brown and stringy. Have you felt a heaviness I’m down below at all? I almost feel like I have been kicked in the bits lol

OP posts:
FlashesOfRage · 15/03/2020 13:42

@Piglet11 I wouldn’t say so no, I’ve had lots of ligament pain around my pubic bone tho! Weird

To be honest my main problem now is pains associated with being very constipated and gassy lol 🙈 I bought some Fybogel drink sachets to help but of course I feel too sick to get them down 😂👌

Hope you have a good few days, keep us updated on how you’re doing xx

RachelStrickson · 15/03/2020 15:05

Congratulations!!! I'm 10+1 today and I'm sick!!!! Since about week 5 I've just felt queesy all the time, only been sick a few times but just on the edge the rest of the time. Trying to hide that and the exhaustion at work is difficult.

We had a scan at 8 weeks at the early pregnancy unit to make sure everything was ok after I had a miscarriage last summer. We just wanted one healthy baby but we're over the moon with two little heartbeats. Got my 12 week scan in just over two weeks so just keeping my fingers crossed firmly that there will still be two healthy babies when we go. We are still trying not to get too excited just incase, after last time.

Fingers crossed everything is all ok for you. I am having a few pains in my lower right stomach, I've done some reading and I think it's just trapped wind (sorry tmi).

Just hoping the symptoms ease off soon, I'm feeling rough!!! Xx

LapsedVeganAcademic · 15/03/2020 18:45

I'm more farty than I ever thought humanly possible, even without the (fairly ineffectual) pints of lactulose I've been chugging.

So lovely to meet you all though..

Piglet11 · 20/03/2020 08:03

Hey how is everyone getting on. My bleeding has stopped, yay! Anyone feeling wet down below? I constantly feel like I’m leaking ir hat I need to pee- I’m pretty sure it’s not pee though. It seems worse for me if I attempt any form of exercise

OP posts:
RachelStrickson · 20/03/2020 12:00

@piglet11 I'm so glad your feeling better and stopped bleeding 😁 I have days when I'm the same and days where it's definitely pee lol

Got my 12 week scan a week on Tuesday but most hospitals are not letting partners in, I'm devastated!!

How are you keeping? X

Piglet11 · 19/04/2020 09:41

How are u all getting on in your pregnancies now? I’m 12+3 and have my scan on Wednesday. I’m so anxious. Had a scan at 10weeks and everything was fine but any pains I get just send me into panic mode. The sooner I have the babies the better lol.

Hi,

I'm 13+4 with DCDA twins, I hope everyone is feeling ok! I felt pretty rough until a few days ago, I'm hopeful that the nausea will abate soon...

I hope this isn't too much of a thread derailment. If anyone is in the UK I was wondering if anyone knows if the antenatal care we will receive is going to be significantly different to normal with everything going on with Covid-19? I only had my scan and found out that we're expecting two rather than one last week. I know that midwife appointments are being reduced to phone calls as much as possible but I was wondering at what frequency we'll see a midwife?
