so just have had a lingering chest irritation for a week, a little cough, temp not going over 37.5 at all. went to GP yesterday and she gave me amoxocillin and said to take if it gets worse. today throat a bit more sore and coughing a little more, but temp is staying ok. not sure if i should take them or not, and can't get thru to doc or midwife! i want to get better because this is going on a week but want to make sure itssafe

I have had to take 6 lots during this pregnancy do to uti all amoxicillin and there safe during pregnancy so you will be fine x

GaaaaarlicBread · 12/03/2020 16:14

Yes I’ve taken a lot as I was really unwell at 10 weeks. Almost 16 weeks now and baby is doing well in there . They’re safe , don’t worry

Chaotica · 12/03/2020 16:18

I took loads. GPs and obstetrician all said it was fine.

FeelingBeautiful · 12/03/2020 16:19

ok thanks ladies
just not sure if i'm sick enough or if it's partly stress, things are getting very intense

I had antibiotics through mines due to a chest infection that lasted 6 + weeks. some are safe through pregnancy

KezQueen · 12/03/2020 16:21

If you’ve been prescribed them by a doctor, then take them. They’re safe. You’re growing a whole human, you need to be strong Smile

TheoneandObi · 12/03/2020 16:21

Yep. Took them for a strep infection just before birth. This was in the US where you're routinely tested. Probably saved me and DD all kinds of grief.

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 12/03/2020 16:21

Yup. Had a water infection at the start so took 2 courses. If your GP have you them (and you've registered that you're pregnant) I'm sure they will be safe.

RhymingRabbit3 · 12/03/2020 16:22

Presumably you told the GP that you're pregnant when they prescribed them? I took amoxicillin while pregnant and it was fine.

Tableclothing · 12/03/2020 16:23

I took 5 courses due to repeat infections. The risk of the untreated infection was far, far higher than the risk of the antibiotic. Your immune system is suppressed during pregnancy - take your prescriptions as directed.

FeelingBeautiful · 12/03/2020 16:26

thanks ladies for replying!
anyone take them without having a temperature, or having very low grade temp between 37 and 37.6?

FeelingBeautiful · 12/03/2020 16:29

temp low but chest very scratcy. gp said it was up to me to judge and i am the worst person cos i normally just truck on. yep told gp i was pregnant. didn't have a gp before i was pregnant, never got things like this

When I first started mine my temp was 42 , very high and very poorly . Second time round they gave them me again as I got tonsillitis but didn’t have a fever , my temp was 36.2 or something so within normal range . If you’ve been prescribed them, take them, you need to be strong x

FeelingBeautiful · 12/03/2020 16:58

@itsemily thanks! ok i've taken my first one and will continue, thanks very much for replying ladies

My consultant ob pretty much force fed me the first dose of antibotics (amoxocillin) when I had a nasty chest infection 2 weeks before my planned section date. Dd is fine. I didn't have a temperature but nothing was shifting the cough until I took the pills.

Apparently you really don't want to cough during surgery.

FeelingBeautiful · 12/03/2020 17:16

@Dinosauratemydaffodils thank you! again great reassurance. can't wait to feel a bit better. for a split second i thought i had covid but doc said definitely not so that's good. massive jump in the numbers again today

Bol87 · 12/03/2020 17:41

Yep, last pregnancy I had about 6 courses for repeated urine infections! Amoxicillin is perfectly safe in pregnancy Smile

FeelingBeautiful · 12/03/2020 17:55

@BoI87 thank you so much, yep just taken one and will keep going. so aware i want to make the best choice for baby but we have to look after ourselves in order to that

I took one course for the same reason as you, potential chest infection. I was worried too but the doctor said a chest infection and its complications (I have asthma) would be much more harmful to the baby than antibiotics.

Halloweenbabyy · 12/03/2020 20:01

I’ve taken loads yeah x

FeelingBeautiful · 12/03/2020 20:56

thanks @Russell19 and @Halloweenbabyy that's good. i'm also today taking one paracetamol ever 4 hours for the headache and to stop the temp from getting high. never normally take meds like this so I'm just more conscious of it

Hi, I'm the same... no temp but have bacterial throat infection... doctor confirmed it (had white spots on the back of my throat). Doctor said to have full course of prescribed antibiotics even if I feel better after a few days. He said consequence of not taken the antibiotics could be much worse, than taking them.

FeelingBeautiful · 13/03/2020 06:32

@oopsdaisy thank you, that sounds like me!
