Hi all. My GP only recommended me to take folic acid but no tests were done to assess if i have any deficiencies. I've been talking folic acid & vitamin d but i am thinking whether i should take pregnancy multivitamins instead.
Because of my nausea i cannot eat as varied as i used to before, i am 10w3d.
Any advice? What vitamins are you taking?

I took pregnacare max. The downside is some people find it upsets their stomach but it was never a problem for me

I take the multivitamins because my diet is rather inadequate at times! If you're eating a well-balanced diet, I'd stick to vitamin D and folic acid.

I took pregnacare during my first pregnancy but it did make me sick and extremely constipated. Currently pregnant and taking folic acid, vic d, b complex (all boots brand) and omega 3 and feel much better. Tried pregnacare again but had to bin them.

I took pregnacare max for some of the first trimester, superdrug pregnancy multi vitamin for the second (folic, vit d, c & b I think) and now just vitamin d in my last trimester. I did just take folic and vit d for the first few weeks of my first trimester (and the months before ttc) as my doc said there wasn't any evidence that anything else did anything, its hard not to get marketed too, more expensive is better right and I ended up getting sucked in even though my diet is probably quite adequate. I’m taking just folic acid and vit D. I’ve read quite a few people say the pregnancy vitamin has made their morning sickness a lot worse.

You are correct that folic acid and Vitamin D are the two well known ones to be taking.

You would be safe to take just these if you feel that you eat very healthy and get a good balance of vitamins and minerals. I would make sure that you are eating lots of iron rich foods too, or an iron tablet (although some people find that these cause constipation which is less than ideal in pregnancy!)

If you take a multivitamin that isn't for pregnancy make sure that you avoid vitamin A supplementation as it can be Teratogenic.

I think pregnacare are a con - massively expensive. And the tablets are massive and were really hard to swallow! If diet is Ok you just need folic acid and possibly vit D at this time of year. I bought a box of folic acid for a couple of quid which lasted for the whole time it's recommended to take it.
