I was under the impression that the medical exemption certificate was valid from the start of pregnancy but my GP seems to think it’s now 20 weeks, is this correct?

I’m ok yet another prescription for sickness meds and thought I would claim the exemption having paid for my past 3 prescriptions.

I’m only 6 weeks pregnant - does anyone know if this is correct?

I got mine in the post after my booking appointment (at 8 weeks) - I had to sign a thing the midwife filled out and send off for it. It is valid for all of pregnancy, or at least from when you get it, definitely not just from 20 weeks onwards (unless there are regional variations?)

I got mine at the booking appointment.

He is wrong. You are talking about the maternity exemption certificate and he is talking about your MatB1. They are different things

As above, your GP is wrong. Maternity Exemption Certificate from the beginning (my midwife completed an online form during my booking appointment and I received an emailed certificate before the end of the appointment) and MATB1 form at 20 something weeks (to claim SMP and/or contractual maternity pay).
