After having some bleeding on and off for around 10 days I was given a scan yesterday at 6 and a half weeks and found I was having twins. I am absolutely over the moon but terrified at the same time. Just looking for so reassurance and positive stories of twin pregnancies

Congratulations!

My ivf DTs are 2 now, and whilst there’s been hard bits they’re absolute superstars and generally a joy. I have b/g twins, got to 36+5 and only had them then due to severe pe - they showed no signs of coming out on their own! They weighed 6lb 6 and 7lb 3.

No experience just wanted to say congratulations! Did you know there’s a multiples section on MN and have you joined the MN ante-natal club for the month you are due? Thanks

Thank you both!

@MuchTooTired oh wow that is a scary thing to happen to you but amazing that your babies were so big considering they were twins. I’m just so worried about something going wrong, these babies have been much wished for for several years and every time I get a twinge or an ache I feel like there is something wrong. Currently have a dull ache in my lower right abdomen. Hopefully I will feel better when I stop bleeding completely.

Thank you for your message jiltedjohnsjulie. I actually don’t know what MN is.

@Piglet11 By the time I had them, I’d never been so glad to get sick before in my life as I was so DONE being pregnant! I worried over every twinge, every pain and felt this immense pressure because I was the only one who could keep them ‘safe’ despite there having been very little I could’ve done if something awful happened. I don’t think I felt relaxed about my pregnancy until I was about 34 weeks when they were a good weight and had a pretty strong chance of survival by which time I was weeks past full term size and incredibly uncomfortable. I should add though that I did have mh issues during pregnancy (depression bit traumatised by ivf) that I never sorted out, and really actually just hate being pregnant so I don’t have the most positive story to share on the subject 😂

As far I can make out so far the worrying never stops it just changes as time goes by and the babies grow! It might be worth seeing if there’s a twin group locally to you as that’s a fantastic support. I found being around other twin parents who just get it such a relief, and they don’t stare like at other baby groups because it’s their norm.

Sorry, this probably hasn’t been the most positive write up of twin pregnancy!

Congrats op!
Twins don't have to be small: I was 7lb8oz and my brother was 8lb7oz!
My mum always says she found that she needed a strict routine with us VS my older brothers (who weren't twins).

I had bleeding at about 7 weeks after being told I was having twins at a 6 week scan after Ivf. They're 5 now.

Apparently there can be some minor tears in a membrane which causes bleeding which is more common in twins.

It's scary I remember it well, I've everything. Crossed for you

Sorry, completely missed you asking about MN. There’s a list of abbreviations used on MN here HTH Smile
