Do sweeps work?

I had a sweep today and I am 40+2. She wrote down I am slightly posterior, and 2-3cm dilated, does this mean the sweep could work or labour could be soon? Otherwise I have to wait until the 19th for a induction which I really dont want.

You are dilated so that's a start to labour, I think you're sweep will work.
I had an unsuccessful sweep in my first pregnancy but my cervix was high and closed.

I had 3 and none of them worked for me!

Mine did. I went into labour that night, had my sweep at about 10 in the morning, labour started 11.30pm that evening. I bounced on a birthing ball for a lot of the day post sweep if that helps!

If you’ve not already got another one booked, phone the mw and arrange another for 2 days time. Consecutive sweeps are more effective at getting a baby out. I had 3, 2 days apart and the last one caused eviction!

I had 4 and went to 42+1 and was 1cm dilated from around 40 weeks (not what you want to hear I know!) It didn't work for me and subsequently I wouldn't want any a second time around, but people have varying degrees of success with them.

I had one at 10am on the Friday morning, and my contractions started at 2am Saturday morning. She was born at 9.20am, so less than 24 hours after the sweep. Good luck!

Mine didnt work and i was dialated too. I went for induction later. Could work, but it might not.
