Prams at bargain prices on Ebay?? (advice required please - this is NOT an ad!)

OK... so it looks like I can get a brand new, in sealed box, Mamas an Papas Pliko Pramette on Ebay for about £230 (buy now price) as opposed to the £300 they are in the shop...

How is this possible?

Is there a catch?

Is it dodgy?

Anyone had any experience?

I'm a natural sceptic, and find it hard to believe in 'great deals' without there being something deeply amiss...

whats the item number or link?

designerbaby · 07/09/2007 14:17

HI sparkly - there are MANY... all seem to be Ebay shops rather than resale. If you search' Mamas and Papas Pliko pramette new' and scroll down to shops there are dozens...

I wouold go with thisseller they have very good feedback. It could be that they are wholesellers.

susiemj · 07/09/2007 14:38

What do you think about buying from ebay. My hubbie thinks that we won't have any kindof guarantee or right of return if somehting goes wrong with the product. Don't mean to hijack but I think this is on the same lines as yours DB.

sparklygothkat · 07/09/2007 14:41

that is true. I haven't brought a new pram from Ebay, but did buy a silver cross 3d from ebay/mumnetter. There are websites about that sell them cheaper than the shops (kiddicare is one of them)

BetsyBoop · 07/09/2007 14:51

Also check out the P&P, some look cheap, but aren't so cheap once you add that on (many of the reputable internet shops such as kiddicare do free P&P on pushchairs)

sparklygothkat · 07/09/2007 14:55

kiddicare are very fast too, I ordered a glider chair last friday and it arrived on tuesday.

designerbaby · 07/09/2007 15:03

I know susie - this is also one my concerns... I was trying to decide if I was £50-£60 concerned...

Dammit - Kiddicare don't do the pliko prammette...

This company [[http://www.babys-mart.co.uk/itemdetl.php/itemprcd/pliko_pramette babys-mart] have the pliko in 3 colours for £254. I used them to order a carseat and it arrived very fast

sparklygothkat · 07/09/2007 15:54

whoops babys-mart

yomellamoHelly · 07/09/2007 16:22

Bought a pushchair on ebay for 2/3rds the price. But have had loads of problems with it and have had to drive there 4 times now in 8 montsh (90 minute round trip if no traffic which there has been for most of these trips) to get it fixed (which admittedly they have done no trouble). With hindsight should have paid the full price and bought it locally to save the hassle.

mummy2aaron · 07/09/2007 16:25

skdatta aka Beegees Baby Shop are excellent and they do the Pramette at a very reasonable price. I have bought from them several times. Lexiliz as mentioned by sgk are good too but expensive post.

designerbaby · 07/09/2007 16:39

mummy2 - I've googled this but can't seem to find it - can post a URL/link?

I am concerned a bit about after-sales service.. I suppose it all depends on how much one will save overall...

Thanks for the advice/suggestions though...

there is also a compnay called Baby Unique in Stockport who are fab and deliver, I know they do M&P at a reasonable price.

sparklygothkat · 07/09/2007 19:16

DB, not sure if you want the silver cross 3d (very similar to the pliko) but have the 3d for £219 look under prams and pushchairs

lisad123 · 07/09/2007 20:21

I lost a lot of money on a bugaboo, £260 a lady ripped 20 mums to be off, for £365 each!! Just be sure to read feedback first, and check they havent been selling small item to build good feedback

Thanks sparklygothcat and mummytoaaron - you've been extremely helpful!

Sorry for late reply, but no internet access at home at the moment...

I guess the moral of the story is to do one's homework before taking the plunge - and working out exactly how much you really will save when everything's taken into consideration and whether it's worth it...

I liked the silver cross, but found it a bit bigger and heavier that the pliko - it had lots of 'bits' on it, which might have been good, but I would have prefered to lose them in favour of a lighter weight - being a shortarse and living in London means I'm going to be constantly hauling it on and off trains, tubes and buses (now it's officially a crine to drive anywhere in this city...)

Also really liked the coour of the pliko... what can I say, I'm a designer, and yes, I'm THAT shallow...

Still can't quite believe it's possible to get these things for so much less money without there being a catch - but it seems that it is

Thanks for all the feedback though,

designerbaby · 10/09/2007 11:08

NOt to worry floss - I'm originally from Norfolk... this website looks bootiful...

They look like a good seller - plus I notice they advertise the 2007 model at 9kg - which I notice not all of them do...

Thanks for the link...
