Can anybody suggest any meals to bulk cook whilst I'm on maternity ready for when baby is here? Thanks 😊

I batch cooked a lot of "building blocks" rather than that many whole meals - ie tomato pasta sauce frozen in individual portions and lots of bolognese and mash (so an instant cottage pie). I also cooked some stews that could be served with a sachet of microwave rice. I found the flexibility helpful when we had visitors - eg take out 2 sets of 2 person portions rather than 2 meals.

I made:

Lasagne
Thai chicken curry
Teriyaki chicken
Butternut squash soup
Fish pie
Brownies
Banana and chocolate cake

Cakes were so useful for middle of the night feeds!

Lasagne, soups, stews, cottage pie, curries, chicken and chorizo sauce for pasta, pies. You cold do a bit batch of bolognese then use some to turn into lasagne and chilli.
Maybe worth freezing some crumpets or scotch pancakes etc for a quick snack.

I only made lasagne and chilli this time round but both have been a godsend! With a smaller freezer and less pregnancy nausea, I would have made stew, cake, cottage pie, ratatouille and maybe macaroni cheese or pasta bake as well.

The things you most love eating. I know that sounds trite, but when exhausted confused and befuddled I was sometimes so happy to have a meal I really loved out of the freezer, it made me feel a bit more looked after. So I had stew and lamb shanks, but really, whatever will make you go, ooh great.

I just bought a book called the batch lady, I follow her on Instagram and she's great. Am planning on testing the recipes out over the next few weeks in preparation for an epic batch cook pre-baby!

Stuff you can eat with one hand / fork / spoon! Some babies don't like being put down AT ALL!

Ohdeariedear · 09/03/2020 20:06

I made about 100 meals for 1 in those little tinfoil trays. I did lasagne, chicken and ham pie, cottage pie and fish pie. Things that could be put straight in the oven and then eaten out the tray (no washing up!)

I look back now amazed at how organised I was!

We've got a little chest freezer that I think we'll empty out and fill up with tubs of slow cooker meals. Soups, stews, casseroles and anything Pinterest 😆
