Blue feet/legs and numb hands

I’m 36+3 and over the last 3/4 days I’ve noticed my feet are slightly swollen but more concerned that my feet/legs keep going blue when I’m sitting down. I first noticed it on the toilet after I’d been sitting for about 5/10 mins (I had a bad stomach) and then last 3 nights in particular I’ve woken up in the middle of the night and in the mornings with my hands being dead, sore and with pins and needles. Is this normal and part of the final stages of pregnancy? Baby is only 2/5ths engaged, measuring 90th centile. No water at all, bump is all baby and been suffering with SPD and sciatica so I have been sitting down a lot due to that and wondered if that might be having an affect? Any advise would be greatly appreciated 😊

I'd ring 111.

MidiMitch · 08/03/2020 21:02

The blue thing would worry me.

Tashy777 · 08/03/2020 21:09

@MidiMitch I was thinking about ringing the midwife tomorrow, it’s not every single time I sit down it’s mainly certain positions such as being on the toilet and stuff. Google just scares me with pre eclampsia and things like that!

Call your maternity triage and speak to them about it. They will probably want to see you, don't forget to take your baby bag! Good luck x

MidiMitch · 08/03/2020 21:10

I am not in anyway medically trained - I just worry that blue=lack of blood getting somewhere

MidiMitch · 08/03/2020 21:11

I agree with @tobeornottobe1

nocoolnamesleft · 08/03/2020 21:12

Call labour ward. They may well want to see you tonight to check you out.

Wolfiefan · 08/03/2020 21:13

Hope they can set your mind at rest OP.

Helspopje · 08/03/2020 21:13

Phone triage and be seen
Blue extremities ca be a bad deal so best get checked out

Tashy777 · 08/03/2020 21:18

The only people I could ring would be the delivery suite? Everywhere else is closed. I’m abit worried now 😓

Yes, call delivery suite. They can decide if they need to see you tonight.

csmw · 08/03/2020 21:32

Blue normally means circulation issues so definitely call triage x

Bol87 · 08/03/2020 21:32

Def get a check at MAU if you can. I started getting very blue hands around 28 weeks pregnant along with dizziness & lights in my eyes.

I got really well checked over by my GP & the MAU. Bloods, BP, urine, GTT & baby was monitored while it was happening etc.. all was fine bar having very low pressure & ongoing anemia.

I’ve continued to get blue hands & dizziness throughout the 3rd trimester, it’s def a bit unnerving but baby has always bopped away as usual. My consultant has concluded it’s a combination of my anaemia & low blood pressure causing circulatory issues.

So hopefully, it’s nothing to worry about but they took me very seriously in maternity. Def get checked as soon as you can - your maternity assessment unit should be open 24/7!

Tashy777 · 08/03/2020 21:37

I was thinking circulation issues and seem to have that tingling feeling in my legs all time at the moment but currently my legs look fine? I hate feeling like I’m wasting their time so I was thinking about just calling the midwife tomorrow morning first thing and seeing if the dead hands thing happens again tonight.. what do you think?

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 08/03/2020 21:38

Honestly I would call. You’re not wasting their time even if it’s just for reassurance.

nocoolnamesleft · 08/03/2020 21:40

I think you should call tonight. Why take any chances?

nocoolnamesleft · 08/03/2020 21:41

My thinking: the dead hands thing could be carpal tunnel syndrome. That, in pregnancy, would imply swelling in your hands, as well as your feet. That could be pre eclampsia. Pre eclampsia is serious. So get checked out tonight.

MidiMitch · 09/03/2020 05:34

Did you call in the end @Tashy777 ?

Tashy777 · 09/03/2020 08:42

@MidiMitch I did and they said they’ve never heard anyone report it before and if I’m concerned to speak to my GP - asked if I’ve ever suffered with it prior to being pregnant which I haven’t so surely it must be pregnancy related? :S

MidiMitch · 09/03/2020 20:16

Glad they aren't worried @Tashy777 - hopefully put your mind at rest

Tashy777 · 09/03/2020 20:49

@MidiMitch yeah it has I went to see the GP today and she said I just need to keep my legs elevated when sitting. Advised if it got any worse to go back but she’s confident the blood flow is there 😊
