Hi, what's everyone's thoughts on the name Isla please? (pronounced eye-la)

I'm just trying to go for something that is a bit different.

Pretty but common.
Also popular are similar sounding names like Ayda. Idha. Aida.

Sorry! I guess you need to decide if you like the name or want something unusual.

Oh I didn't realise it's quite a common name

I'm 37 and don't know anyone called that name.

I suppose I like the name and it's just a bit different

I love Isla, one of my faves, but i'm not going to use it as i believe it's in the top three in the UK at the moment! Big shame!

I'm a secondary school teacher and there must be about 5 Islas in each year group. It's very common these days. I do really like it though.

Isla is really lovely, but I gather it's very popular in the UK. I'm in Ireland and haven't yet met a single one.

Super common so if you don’t want that, probably best to choose something else.

It’s really popular round me! The two neighbours in the gardens backing onto mine both have Isla’s, my cousins little girl is Isla & there’s 3 at our toddler group! 🙈 it came in at no.5 for most popular name in the UK for 2019!

It’s a lovely name though, don’t let popularity put you off, there’s a reason it is so popular!

Sorry OP - it is lovely but it is very, very popular. It is currently #4 in England and Wales and has been in the top five since 2013.

I think it's beautiful, don't worry about everyone saying ooo it's common now there will only be one little girl with that name that matters to you!!

I liked the name Jessica however got the oh you don't here that much now do you..... Everyone has an opinion none matter unless you want them too xx

It's the new Lily here! Nice name but when someone says it several little heads turn!

It's a nice name - in our area it seemed like every second baby was called Isla (and all the boys were Brodie!) about 4/5 years ago but it seems to have calmed down so now they're all older it wouldn't be so common.

It's a really pretty name, but there are so many Islas or variations of, around here.

I had this too with choosing names. Before I circulated with people with children! I was pregnant and thought i had chosen an unusual name, had loved it for years and years. That decades fashion unfortunately!!! I’d just say if it’s a popular name it’s because it’s a nice name, so don’t let that put you off

Isla is much much nicer than Ivy. Ivy is still really popular though.
