7 weeks, fell down stairs, bleeding

Hi all,

So yesterday I managed to fall down a flight of stairs, I’m just shy of 7 weeks pregnant (after 2 miscarriages, 2 years of fertility issues and ivf).

At 4am I woke to go for a wee and I had some brown/ orange bleeding, I went to a&e but their EPU wouldn’t scan unless it was life threatening. I have a scan booked for Monday which seems a million years away.

They did do a beta HCG blood test, which came back as 60,000.

I have no cramps and the bleeding seems to have eased up.

Any positive outcome stories for early bleeding with or without a fall?

I've heard spotting/light bleeding can be normal. At about 6 weeks I had a small bleed as I was getting ready to board a flight :| didnt get to see a midwife till a week after... and now I'm 28 weeks with a very health baby Smile

Peacefullythoughtful · 07/03/2020 15:29

I fell in the shower at about 8 weeks and spotted afterwards. She is now 12. I put myself on bed rest for a few days after until I was sure the bleeding had stopped and it was ok. Probably a massive over reaction but I felt like I was doing something rather than just worrying! My midwife said she fell on her stomach at 16 weeks and was fine. They are well protected in there! Hope Monday comes quickly for you so you can see the baby is ok and relax a bit

I electrocuted myself when I was pregnant and everything was fine, if that makes you feel better?

Everdreamer1990 · 07/03/2020 16:04

I fell down the stairs around 10 weeks & was fine. I just really hurt my arm & ended up with carpet burn!

Your LO will be all nice & cushioned inside. Especially with the fluid which surrounds them.

DobbieFreeElf · 07/03/2020 16:23

Thank you everyone, I needed some positive reassurance. Although everyone that dealt with me this morning was very lovely they did little in the way of helping me from feel very sad and like Monday was very far away.

@Sizeofalentil sorry I’m sure it wasn’t amusing but the thought made me smile a little!

Try not to worry, I bled during pregnancy for various reasons. You'd really have to have fallen very badly to do too much damage at this stage (the kinda fall that does significant other damage). Hope it goes well Monday.

Darkstar4855 · 07/03/2020 16:47

At this stage the uterus is very small and tucked right down in the pelvis so the chances of harming the baby are incredibly low. Fingers crossed for good news on Monday.

DobbieFreeElf · 07/03/2020 17:48

Thank you for your positivity x

I’ve had a little bit more (TMI warning) brown/ grey tiny “bits”

I know there’s nothing to do if it’s over but the wait is very depressing

I bled at 5 weeks & then again 2 weeks later. The second time was coupled with cramps & I was terrified.

I'm now sat here with my 2 week old on my knee.

Bleeding does not always mean something is wrong.

Hopefully it's good news for you on Monday.

Lordfrontpaw · 07/03/2020 18:56

I know it’s easy to say - but try not to worry yourself. Babies are tougher than you imagine and protected pretty well in the belly. Bleeding isn’t that unusual for a number of reasons.

Good luck for Monday.

TheSheepofWallSt · 07/03/2020 18:57

I fell on my belly at 24 weeks... baby totally fine.
Put all my heels into storage after that though Blush

AlviesMam · 07/03/2020 19:01

I fell down concrete stairs at 7 weeks pregnant , had a huge bruise on my bum. This was while I was abroad and I worried all week! Baby was fine (unfortunately I had a late miscarriage that was not related to the fall!)
Keep calm. You can't change anything. Keep positive...easy said than done I know! X

OneTooManyBathtimes · 07/03/2020 19:05

Fell down the stairs at 30+ weeks, everything fine (except it made my PGP worse)

Step mum fell on her bump the day before her cæsarian was planned, went to hospital because she's broken her nose, they didn't even check her bump. Again, everything fine.

amazedmummy · 07/03/2020 19:08

I was about 16 weeks when I fell out with my gate and rattled it into my stomach, it was so hard it left a bruise. He's 15 weeks and asleep on me now. I also had unrelated bleeding at 8 weeks.

sel2223 · 07/03/2020 19:10

I fell down the stairs last week at 16 weeks. I bruised my coccyx and still struggling with it but I've since had a private gender/well being scan and baby was absolutely fine.

My best friend fell down stairs at 33 weeks and baby was fine (he's now 7)

My grandmother fainted and fell backwards down stairs when pregnant with my auntie and she's now in her 50's

Try not to worry x

London91 · 07/03/2020 19:36

I slipped down the stairs at around 10 weeks. I'm 15 weeks now and all is good so far.
Hope everything is okay. Try not to worry.

I had bleeding at 8 weeks just as you describe. My twins are now 3 Smile the epu told me it was implantation bleeding and showed me the pockets of blood on the scan.

DobbieFreeElf · 07/03/2020 19:59

Thank you, thank you, thank you all... I’m really trying to focus on the beta hcg being high. It hasn’t helped that all last week I was feeling very down and sure that this pregnancy was doomed before I fell down the sodding stairs! I’m still so cross with myself for doing it! I’m happy to hear the positive stories and it’s making me feel slightly less anxious x

I bled orange/brown blood on and off all the way through pregnancy. It freaked me out a lot and I got it checked out at the hospital a number of times. In the end the doctors reassured me that it happens, often. If it’s a miscarriage it will likely increase and there will be no mistaking what is happening. If it’s just spotting brown/orange then things are probably fine. Still worth getting checked if you’re worried though. I now have a very healthy 21 month old, so it really was a panic over nothing for me.

GrumpyHoonMain · 07/03/2020 20:14

Spotting is normal in an ivf pregnancy.

Roozy123 · 07/03/2020 20:50

I had spotting around 6 weeks... I'm now almost 39 weeks pregnant.
I hope and I'm sure everything is fine. I know the wait is horrible! Flowers

Alonelonelyloner · 07/03/2020 20:55

Spotting does not spell doom, but please remember that whatever happens the fall would not cause a miscarriage. At 7 weeks your bub is tiny and well-protected. You did not cause anything.

Think positive thoughts if you can. All my miscarriages (bar one) were bloodless so I can't say. I did have spotting with one successful pregnancy. There just no real rhyme or reason to it.
Rest up xx

milney25 · 07/03/2020 21:12

@dobbyfreeelf I bleed from weeks 5-12 with my first pregnancy a couple of years ago and everything was fine. I am now bleeding in my second pregnancy - bright red, brown, pink you name it. Scan at 6 weeks with a heartbeat. Blood doesn't always mean the end, and lot and lots of people bleed in the early days. So so many professionals have told me: try not to worry unless you are filling a pad and have cramping. Of course this isn't true for everyone, but I think for most that rings true. I hope you are feeling OK, I know how stressful the bleeding is xx

DobbieFreeElf · 08/03/2020 10:54

You’re all very kind to share your stories, thank you 😊

Tomorrow can’t come quickly enough...

How did your scan go today?
