Downregulating meds after FET

Hi, can you please let me know when you started down regulating progesterone and estrogen after FET?

I take progesterone 800, estrogen 3 a day and 5mg of prednisone, plus aspirin and my clinic said reduce all meds by half week 9 and stop during week 10. I am week 9 and reduced my meds and now realized I'm counting my weeks from the last day of my period and they may count it from FET? I have emailed them but will have to wait till Monday for a reply.

I just stopped them (but wasn’t on the prednisolone) at week 10.

If you’ve had a medicated FET of a 5 day embryo, then you count the transfer day as day 19 and work out the weeks from there. (Egg collection day is day 14 and you add on 5 days for embryo to reach blastocyst stage so when you have the transfer it’s cycle day 19.)

I was told it was ok to completely stop both progesterone and oestrogen at 10 weeks pregnant which was around 9 weeks after my last af. I was really anxious about it so the Dr said it would do no harm if I wanted to carry on until I’d finished the packets I had. I ended up weaning myself off over a week and completely finished at 11 weeks. If you’re unsure them continue over the weekend until they can confirm on Monday.

Stopping meds was so nerve wracking I felt so much better mentally afterwards. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

@EarlGreyT and @Betsyboo87 thank you so much for replying. I had 6 day embryo transfer, so I am 9w 6d today, I used online calculator for IVF/FET but this counts week 1 from the first day of the last period not from conception date. Are you counting your weeks from conception or last period when you say you stopped at week 10?

Sorry I'm panicking a bit

I had a blood test on OTD and they told me I was 4 weeks on that day which was 10dp5dt. I’ve used that as my basis ever since and it ties with my due date. Has your clinic given you a due date? Can you work back from that?

This online calculator is only a day out for me www.yourivfjourney.com/baby-calculators-for-pregnancy/ivf-and-fet-due-date-calculator/
It doesn’t do 6dt but I guess you could put your transfer date as the day before it actually took place?

EarlGreyT · 07/03/2020 07:58

I am not counting it from either! Conception date is day 14 of your cycle and then you add on days of embryo development from there. You can’t use the day your last period for IVF as normal cycle dates go out of the window with IVF.

The calculator @Betsyboo87 used is correct. If you had a 6 day transfer, transfer day is cycle day 20 and you would be exactly 4 weeks at 8 days after your transfer.

What date did you have your transfer? If you are happy to tell me that, I’ll calculate your dates for you.

EarlGreyT · 07/03/2020 08:04

Sorry @Viletta, I have realised maybe I’ve completely misunderstood the question you’re asking!

Are you asking re counting weeks in terms of the number of weeks you need to be taking the medication and at what point to count from as the date when you started them?

If so, I don’t know how long I was actually taking them for, but I stopped taking them when 10 weeks pregnant.

I had fet abroad and that clinic advised reducing and finishing at 9 weeks, but my uk clinic do it til 12 weeks which is what I'm doing.

Hi all, thank you for replying, I had 6d transfer of 17 January and calculated my due date as 3-4 October that was also confirmed on the ultrasound at 7 weeks. The calculator tells me I'm now 10w0d pregnant today. But if I count transfer minus 6 days, 11 Jan was 8 weeks ago, not 10. I know there are two ways of counting the weeks from the last day of the period I'm 10w as per the calculator (due date then week 40) or from conception date then I am 8w (due date week 38). Which weeks they use when they say I can stop my meds at 10w... I hope to find out on Monday and hope I didn't screw up by reducing all meds too early.

Yep so you’re 10 weeks and that was when I was told to completely stop. I googled loads and found clinics really vary from 8 weeks to 12 weeks. Some say go cold turkey and some say reduce. I dropped one dose a day and nothing bad happened so I dropped another a couple of days later. You’ll be fine too, my anxiety reduced dramatically after stopping meds. It also felt good to have reached that milestone.

EarlGreyT · 07/03/2020 10:34

Yes you’re exactly 10 weeks pregnant today. Normally when clinics say to stop medication they’re referring to weeks of pregnancy.

Working from conception date need to add 2 weeks onto conception date as this is day 14 of cycle.

Viletta · 07/03/2020 11:33

@EarlGreyT and @Betsyboo87 thank you both, that's a massive relief! Phew.. I'll wait calmly till Monday when my clinic confirms.
