How long after booking appointment to get scan appointment?

I'm so full of anxiety. At my appointment with the midwife last week on weds when I was 10 weeks it turns out the lady I saw when I was 5 weeks didn't send any details off! so she was surprised i filled in most of the book already. So she did the booking in appointment there and has sent my book of stuff with the requests for stickers last week. I've not heard anything since then and I'm getting more and more anxious as I'll be 12 weeks next Wednesday. Does it take about a week or two to get an appointment? Would I chase it up with midwife or the hospital. I've been really anxious since finding out about the pregnancy because my cousins wife sadly had a stillbirth in December. I feel I can't relax or share the news with anyone until the scan. Not got much faith in my go surgery atm x

Usually takes a week or two to get the scan appointment through, it depends how early you book in. The dating scan can be as late as 13+6 if you have requested the screening so sounds like you’re still within normal time frame.

Thanks I'll try and keep patient next week. We did agree that I would take all the tests going to see what's what as i was told they now do it so u have your blood tests etc when u have scan so it could be a few hours for appointment x

I've had my booking appointment today the midwife told me if I haven't had my appointment letter when I'm approaching 12 weeks to give the scan department at the hospital a call. Hope this helps.

They will find a scan appointment for as close to 12 weeks as possible as they will want to date the pregnancy, check how many babies there are, check the heartbeat and offer the screenings.
Don't worry. You will get a date close to 12 weeks despite it being late. Lots of women go in and don't know when their LMP was, or just don't end up getting to a booking appointment until around 10 weeks, and all these women are still scanned as close to and around 12 weeks as possible.
Hospitals aren't fully booked for scans as there's always appointments for women in case of emergencies etc!
All the best ThanksSmile

I think get in touch with your midwife and find out what the procedure is. My midwife actually rang and booked my scan when I was at my booking appointment. Apparently thats how they do it where I am and we don’t get a letter, just told the date at the booking appt and then turn up. I think it’s different everywhere so worth finding out.

I guess it's different everywhere. Had my booking appointment today and got my appointment for my scan today. I think you have until 13+6 but I'd definitely chase up if you're worried. Good luck

I was 13+6 exactly by the time I had my dating scan and only got my appointment a week earlier.
I too was panicking about it but everything was absolutely fine. It means a shorter wait to the 16 week midwife appt and 20 week scan so I'm actually quite pleased it was late now!

Try not to worry, the scan is generally done between 12-14 weeks and they will try and do it as close to 12 weeks as possible. If your unsure, call your midwife and get some advice, everywhere is different. I met my midwife early on (at 5 weeks) where she done my bloods, gave me my book and sent off to request my scan. My letter came through just over a week later. I actually knew the date of my scan before my actual booking in app.

Good news! Had my letter - scan will be on the 19th when I will be 13 wk 1 day. :) x thanks for your reassurances everyone! X
