Risk of tearing with 2nd birth, when didnt in first.

Im just wondering what the chances are of me tearing when Im giving birth this time. I didnt tear the first time, in fact I didnt even feel the head come out! I dont know what that says about me! It must have been the only bit of good the pethedine did! Anyway, so is it likely to happen this time when it didnt the first? Please help because Im quite worried about it.

Don't worry, my sister never tore with any of hers, she had 3 and the last one was over 9lbs!
I tore with my ds and had to have stitches, but it was fine, I never had any problems after the birth no discomfort and back having sex after a couple of weeks.
So whatever the outcome don't worry, chances are you won't tear but if you do its really not that bad.

well im planning on spending most of my time when in labour, in the bath, so tat should help abit im hoping.

you lucky thing mumyz, i wish i didnt feel the head come out, for me thats the worst part.
im no help unfortunatly, with dd1 i tore with dd2 i didnt.

i didnt tear with either of the first 2 (6lbs 6oz and 7lbs 4oz)

for some reason i have it in my head i will this time because bump is HUGE and ive still got just over 11 weeks to go!

I suppose its just how your luck pans out on the day then?

I am a midwife and i would say that the vast majority of women who do not tear the first time do not tear the second time either. I had nothing first time round and a small one second time round but then ds was a lot larger than dd. hth

I tore the first time but not the second time. i would think if you didn't the first time, you will escape the second time too!
