Hi all,

It's the second day with a horrendous sore throat. I went to the doctor and they confirmed it s bacterial (rather than viral) and prescribed penicillin.

I'm so scared of taking it.. and yes I know that the doctor knows best but still.. could I wait it out and maybe it'll get better by itself?

Did anyone here took penicillin in the first trimester?

At 4/5 weeks I had surgery under general anaesthetic and had two courses of antibiotics (not penicillin as I'm allergic).
I now have a perfect 6 month old Smile

Please don't worry. They wouldn't prescribe anything if it was unsafe. Also the placenta doesn't kick in until about 12 weeks so you won't even be sharing a blood supply yet!

Complications from the infection, sepsis etc could be far more damaging to both of you, so please try not to worry!!

I’ve been on antibiotics three times (once for an infection that lead to sepsis) this pregnancy, I went for a scan on Monday and they’ve confirmed I have a very lively , healthy looking almost 15 week old baby inside me right now that seems perfectly well. I know it’s not much help as I haven’t had the baby yet but they’ve assured me it’s very safe . Xx
