How do you know what sizes to take with you to the hospital?

I'm looking at first sizes, will this be ok?

I havent bought any newborn sizes. Ive got size 0-3 months in everything.

Newborns grow so quickly, I didnt see much point in buying clothes that will only fit for a short while.

I bought 6 newborn vests and 6 newborn babygrows. They lasted my daughter a few weeks and she was 7 pounds 1 ounce.

rottiemum88 · 04/03/2020 21:16

0-3 will drown a smaller baby. DS was 9lbs13 and went straight into 0-3, but we'd bought multipacks of 5 vests/sleepsuits in both newborn and 0-3, then took a few of each to the hospital with us. They're very cheap, available nearly everywhere (supermarkets etc) and really don't need to be fancy. You can then go out and buy more of whichever you need once baby is here

amazedmummy · 04/03/2020 21:16

DS was forecast to be big so we just went for 0-3. I'd be tempted to buy 0-3, maybe 1/2 in newborn, you can pick up more of whatever you need.

Emberfoot · 04/03/2020 21:18

I got a few hand me downs in newborn and 0-1, and plan on getting more if baby does turn out to be small. Otherwise we bought lots of 0-3.

N12345625 · 04/03/2020 21:24

@rottiemum88 I completely agree. 0-3 would have been way too big for my daughter. I would definitely buy some cheap baby grows. I bought mine from Asda, they were only 3 for £6.

KittenVsBox · 04/03/2020 21:34

You wont know!
My 7lb baby needed 0-3 because he was long and scrawny.
His 8lb3 brother fitted into 0-1 month stuff because he was shorter but had a bit more padding.

They will grow into 0-3, so that will get used.
Then a small amount of smaller stuff, to be topped up if needed.

Unless your baby is predicted to be large, a few newborn bits don’t go amiss. My 8lb on the nose baby wore newborn for a good 3ish weeks as 0-3 drowned her! I know it’s not very long but it was nice to have her in sleepsuits that fitted! I just got a couple cheap packs of newborn sleepsuits & vests from Asda I think.. I didn’t buy anything else in newborn, all little outfits etc were 0-3!

DailyKegelReminder · 04/03/2020 22:03

Newborn lasted a good while here. My DD was 6.9 and I did have a pack of "tiny baby" grows too. 0-3 would have swamped her. I made the mistake of buying 0-3 months pram suit and it looked ridiculous, by the time she was big enough to fit in it properly I didnt really need it.

Babyg1995 · 04/03/2020 22:04

I have way too much new born stuff but my other two were in new born for a a couple of months I'm taking in all new born size .

BumbleBeeFlower · 04/03/2020 22:08

I have packed a mix of sizes from newborn, up to 1 month and 0-3 months. Nobody has given me an indication of what size she may be, so I am trying to cover all bases.

ChipsAreLife · 04/03/2020 22:08

I had two long 8lb 10 babies and they needed newborn for a couple of weeks, just don't get loads but at least some

schafernaker · 04/03/2020 22:42

My DD was still in newborn at 3 months old 😂 but she was only 4lb 8 when she was born and was drowned by tiny baby (we hadn’t initially bought any tiny baby!!)

Teacaketotty · 04/03/2020 22:50

We used tiny baby for the first month, she wasn’t in 0-3 until nearly 3 months - so hard to tell. I would take a mixture but don’t buy loads in the smaller sizes.

firstimemamma · 04/03/2020 22:54

We packed a few bits in tiny baby, a few in newborn and a few in 0-3m to cover all bases.

MillieMollie123 · 05/03/2020 00:58

My little one was 6lb 8oz and newborn size drowned her. She was in Tiny Baby size until 3-4 weeks old! Then in newborn size until 8 weeks old! I would definitely take newborn size to the hospital with you. 3 vests, 3 baby grows, a hat and mitts!
