Going back for a second scan to check heart?

I had my 20 week scan yesterday. All was fine except that the sonographer had trouble checking the heart. She said that it was because baby was in a difficult position but its got me worried that she saw something she didn't like. She said she could see four chambers and the heart beat was fine. Anyone else been sent back for the same thing?

I had to with DS. Everything was absolutely fine. Congratulations on your pregnancy Thanks

I had 3 ‘20 week’ scans as she was never in the right position. She’s a happy and healthy 4 month old now!

Selfsettling3 · 04/03/2020 14:08

It’s very common to have to go back. If she was worried about something she would have said.

Yes I had to and everything was fine. Good luck!

Yes I had to go back for the same reason! Went back two weeks later so they could get the measurements, and it just meant an extra chance to see baby Smile

I had to with DD. She was being awkward and in a difficult position. She's currently sat next to me getting excited for world book day tomorrow 😁 it was nice to get to see her again on the scan.

Yes with DS2. It was all fine and I got the best picture of him sucking his little thumb the second time (he still does this now at 4mo).

mandms242 · 04/03/2020 19:30

Yes- I had this only a few weeks ago. Had to go back at 22 weeks as sonographer explained that sometimes a clearer image of the heart can be obtained when baby is a bit bigger.

Everything was completely fine- I get your worry though, I was the same. Morally and professionally they would not be allowed to keep information from you had they had seen something of concern (a sonographer confirmed this for me)

AlviesMam · 04/03/2020 20:05

I had to go back for a heart scan at 20 weeks and unfortunately for me it was bad news (I didn't have four chambers though ) so the fact she seen four chambers is a positive.
My sonographer also held information from me - they aren't doctors so cannot tell you if there's something wrong until they get a second opinion from a consultant.

I'm positive you will be fine as two of my friends at the same time as me got called back to recheck heart it's common. X

Yes we had this with DS. Think the heart is just tricky to see. He's fine and dandy.

FenellaMaxwell · 04/03/2020 20:55

We had this. Everything was fine at the second scan. In the event, DS actually does have a minor heart defect but not one that would have been discernible at the 20 week scan.

fibeee · 04/03/2020 21:08

Yes I also had this. Baby was partying during the first scan so the sonographer couldn’t get a good view of the heart during the scan. Everything was fine second time around.

Emberfoot · 04/03/2020 21:16

I had this and it turned out to not be good news, but try not to worry, 99 times out of a hundred or really is just a wriggly baby x

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 05/03/2020 14:03

They would normally say if they spot an issue 'I suspect x but I can't get a proper look so you need to come back' so I would say it sounds completely fine, it's very normal to have to go back.
I had to go back because they couldn't see his spine or my placenta, but it was entirely because of the way he was laid
