have sex? No matter how many books I read tht say it's safe I can't bring myself to do it. Last time I was 9 weeks and started bleeding straight afterwards so am too scared to try again. Is there categorically no reason not to? And if it causes bleeding is it really ok?

I can't remember what happened with 1st pg but there wasn't much action. Dh is getting a bit..erm, frustrated

I know I should have name changed for this

If you don't feel comfatable, dont do it. Although all Ive ever been told is 'its fine'.

There are lots of other things you and your DH can do to relieve both your frustrations rather than just having penetrative sex

Brangelina · 06/09/2007 15:22

Yes, it's fine. Often it gets better because of all the hormones. My gynae encouraged sex, particularly in the last trimester as she said it was good for both mother and baby and helped prevent premature labour.

If you have had bleeding, then maybe wait until 12 weeks but after that it should be fine.

Haylstones · 06/09/2007 15:24

Thanks, am now nearly 16 weeks so I suppose theoretically it should be OK...
MW is rubbish so can't ask her.
Kitsandbits- 'other things' are working fine for me but apparently isn't enough for dh- there's no pressure from him whatsoever but I get the message!

With my first pregnancy i had problems with bleeding after sex due to cervical erosion and low lying placenta. Sex was infrequent because of this and we were banned from 24 wks. This pregnancy (38+4) has been fine on the sex front - no problems at all!

joopie · 06/09/2007 15:38

i bled at 8wks after sex and found out i had cervical erosion, im too scared to have sex too in case i bleed again. doctors and midwives are rubbish at giving me a straight answer if sex is safe or not.

Brangelina · 06/09/2007 15:43

Haylstones - have you got a low lying placenta? My cousin had placenta praevia and was advised to avoid or be very gentle if poss (including not doing any form of exercise) so she didn't do it.

It really depends on the cause of your bleeding, if it was the "classic" 1st trimester beeding then no problem, but did anyone check to see if there was an underlying cause?

Hey Haylstones - the main thing, if you haven't been told not to for a medical reason, is to only do what you feel happy with. In my first pregnancy, I bled a few times afterwards and although I knew that it was probably my cervix being ultra sensitive, it did freak me out. In this pregnancy, and especially as I lost the last one, I wanted to get past that point (for me 10 weeks) beforehand, I've bled a couple of times but know it is my cervix and therefore am not that freaked out anymore. That said, I don't really like the contractions caused by the intensity of orgasm so am quite happy to be on the verge and then pull back, I'll leave that for when I want to bring on contractions and labour! hope it all works out xx

Thanks all. I had a scan after the bleed but they couldn't see any reason for it so must have been cervical erosion. Bleeding started immediately afterwards i.e when I went to loo straight away it was there .I want to but can't quite bring myself to iyswim! Don't know how dh feeld at the prospect of another 25 weeks of this though!
