Hiya all, I'm new to the site and recently found out (after 7 tests) that I'm pregnant with my first baby . I'm experiencing nausea, free boob job, tiredness etc, but the thing that is worrying me at the moment are these feelings of dizziness and lightheadness when I stand up or yesterday when I walked up the stairs at work, it felt like the whole floor was spinning!! Is this normal ? I was so worried I actually rang NHS direct last night and the nurse said to go see a doctor, but I think I need some reassurance that its normal ?? Thanks all

Totally normal - I have it all the time.
It was really bad when I found out at first - around 4 weeks - which is prob what you are now? One of my first symptoms.
Get up slowly and hold on to hand rails - stairs are a nightmare!
I mean if you start faiting then speak to the doc but I would say just make sure your blood pressure isn't too low by not letting yourself get hungry and you should be fine.
Congrats by the way!

Have tou had your bloods done? It could be aneamia which is very common in pregnancy, I was badly effected with one of mine.

Thanks dolly1 and geogteach...I'm about 7.5 weeks by my calculations but I have been told I'm slightly aneamic (sp?) in the past - I'll mention this when I see the midwife (which hopefully be soon)

Congratulations and try not to worry Yimmy. Feeling dizzy was one of my first symptoms (along with massive boobs ) and it was the thing that made me think I should do a test because I just felt generally quite odd. It's all perfectly normal and it does calm down (at least it has done for me).

Hayleyandbaby · 06/09/2007 15:25

I've been having the exact same problem- I'm nearly 5 weeks. It's all hit me hard, sickness, constant heartburn, cramping, dizziness, FF boobs (makes me want to cry). I'm going to my 1st antenatal appointment on Wednesday and can't wait to put my mind at rest. It's all so worrying isn't it? I think my symptoms have got better since I have tried to relax.

Yes, I had this very early on as well - it was probably one of my first symptoms. Try not to worry - it will in all likelihood pass. I think that for me it had gone by the time the morning sickness kicked in!

Yimmy · 06/09/2007 16:08

i know what you mean Hayleyandbaby it is all soooo worrying, its like the worst case of PMT but at the same time its all very exciting Hope your 1st antenatal goes well hun.... I'm still in shock about being pregnant (feels like the doctor is talking about someone else when they say any pregnancy- related-terms) but am very happy despite feelings of wanting to puke all the time...I've tried not to worry but can't help it - I just want to send happy vibes to my little splodge and not think what-ifs all the time..thanks everyone, I feel a lot more reassured that being dizzy is normal and hopefully it should all calm down soon, this site is amazing! x

Absolutely normal. Make sure you're eating enough decent slowburning carb type stuff so you don't have blood sugar peaks and troughs during the day.

3madboys · 06/09/2007 16:19

yep, i have had that with all my pregnancies, i am now 15wks preg with no4, and this time it has been worse than ever, i have fainted numerous times and i have to be really careful when standing up, getting out of bed etc, its a pita, but totally normal. my blood pressure seems to get REALLY low whe preg, there isnt much that i can do about it, just get used to it, i am careful with my diet etc as any sudden rises and drops in blood sugar levels will make the diziness worse.

it does get better tho, congrats on your pregnancy

suey2 · 06/09/2007 16:19

yep. Had to eat something every couple of hours. Bananas worked well for me

Its so reassuring to read these comments, I only found out 3 days ago, im around 4 weeks and as of yesterday the dizziness has been awful! im scared someone at work is going to notice! im going to ring the docs today to get booked in and I will speak to them about it on my appointment. xx

Congratulations! Just to reassure you, I had this in the first trimester too. I have low-ish blood pressure and low iron so that contributed. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. I mentioned it to the midwife and she said it’s normal. Just keep hydrated and eat little and often.
If it helps, I am now 27 weeks and can’t remember the last time I got up quickly and was dizzy so I think it’s passed!
Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy!

melissa1215 · 24/09/2019 08:42

It's really normal, I got it mostly in the first trimester but if I hadn't ate enough sometimes it would happen in the second and third.

I fainted in Costco at 7 weeks!

It does ease, for me I had to eat little and often, constantly snack and carry some water and that helped me feel better

Notnowokay · 24/09/2019 09:14

Get up slowly and drink extra water. Drinking extra water really helps me raise my blood pressure slightly.

badwin2604 · 24/09/2019 12:56

Thank you everyone! It makes me feel much better and I’m feeling much less concerned now! Xxx
