What do breasts feel like at end of pregnancy?

I’m 38 weeks and have been getting some uncomfortable symptoms in my breasts for the last couple of days. Tonight they are red, hot, irritated looking and tender to touch and the skin on one feels almost raw. Earlier today they felt itchy.

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? I’m wondering if it could be them going through another growth spurt and getting ready to produce more milk. I have already been experiencing some leakage.

I've noticed mine change past few days bigger darker and really itchy I'm 35 week I'm guessing it's because it's getting nearer the if event.

Mine have thickened skin, dry skin, itchy spots and I’ve itched them til bleeding in places, midwife said it was normal :(

At the end of both of my pregnancies I would stand with my boobs in the fridge - because they felt exactly the way you've described

Might you have an infection? Cellulitis or mastitis?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I’m not sure about an infection @nelbert19. I spoke to the midwife today and she didn’t think it was mastitis. But I’ll keep an eye on it.

Boobs feel uncomfortable and it’s such a relief to get my bra off!
