So I'm wondering is my mouth so dry as a normal pregnancy symptom or maybe a sign I will get diabetes during this pregnancy...... I'm only 11+3 so really early on I never had this with others at all but I feel myself panic buying drinks in a shop even its not particularly helpful though very short lived relief. I'm sure it's to early for gestational diabetes.... But then know nothing about it x

Hi @Avearage, I was very very thirsty in my first trimester, this wasn't related to diabetes so for me this was just a pregnancy symptom. If you are worried I would call your mid wife and explain, it would be a fairly simple test to figure out if it is GD and would put your mind at rest.

I’ve been very very thirsty throughout my 1st and most of my 3rd trimester - was a bit less intense in my 2nd trimester. I take a litre bottle to bed every night and drink most/all of it! I’ve had the GD test because of risk factors, and that was clear, and my urine had always been clear, so it’s just a pregnancy thing for me.

As above, do mention it to midwife as you are concerned.

Hey - I feel your pain I’ve been so thirsty I take a pint of water to bed and wake up and drink it all during the night. Everywhere we go I take or buy a drink! I thought they may test for diabetes when they take out bloods/urine at the booking appointment but I could be wrong...

I read somewhere it’s all the extra blood/hormones and that makes you thirsty.

Heya. If that's the only symptom I wouldn't worry cause it is like others say very common to be very thirsty in pregnancy. Have you got a history of diabetes in your family?if so they may want you to have a glucose tolerance test to check for it that's at about 28weeks. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about but if it turns out at some point you do have it even though it sounds scary and awful it's not I've had it 3 times and you and baby are taken good care off. Good luck with everything and congrats x

There sometimes aren't any symptoms. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes in my pregnancy and wasn't thirsty at all. Midwife thought I measured a bit big for dates so sent me off for glucose tolerance test which I didn't do as blood sugar readings at start were so high I went straight on insulin. It didn't go away after birth so it was type 1, which can develop during pregnancy.
