Hi guys I had a growth scan today which I am having regular because he is an ivf baby, my consultant has asked for me to be scanned again in two weeks because of his small femur and said basically if it's any worse they will bring him early, has any one else experienced this and all been fine? Also baby is bum down what are the chances he will turn? Very anxious first time mum any advice is greatly appreciated xx

I can’t comment on the femur, I’m sure someone with experience will be along soon to support with that, but my baby was bum down or transverse or whatever he felt like until 34 weeks and they weren’t worried. He’s very much head down now! (36+5). I think as you get to 36/37 they pay more attention to position. There’s stuff online about things you can do to encourage baby to turn - spinning babies, yoga positions, using cold and heat etc.

Thank you he has managed to get from sideways to head under my ribs so hopefully he will get there x

There's still quite a lot of time for your baby to turn.

Has the doctor explained why the femur being on the 5th centile is a problem? Anything on the centile chart is really still normal range but the 5th centile is obviously the smaller range.

I remember at DD1's scan her femur was on the 90th centile and everything else (particularly her head) was a lot smaller. I was worried she was going to be ridiculously long and thin with a tiny head. When she arrived everything looked perfect and normal. The 90th centile legs just looked like normal legs.

They didnt really say much just that it was a worry because they had barely grown, I have another scan in two weeks and if it's no different or worse they would think about bringing him they may be just being over cautious because of the placenta worry I hope so its going to be a long two weeks waiting x
