Early scan after previous miscarriage

I had a missed miscarriage in November which was picked up at a private 10 week scan, we had the scan as we were so excited not because we had any idea anything was wrong. We found out last week I am pregnant again, going off my last period (25/1) I am about 5 weeks I think?
When would people recommend going for an early scan, we are both very anxious about this pregnancy and terrified something bad will happen again 💔 any support greatly appreciated xxx

Congratulations!

I went for one at 8w due to a bleed and could see the heartbeat. If you just want to check it's there you could probably go now, or wait a few weeks if your nerves can cope.

Try not to worry too much, I know easier said than done. Personally I'd wait until 7/8 weeks to have an early scan, at that point you're guaranteed to see a heartbeat if the pregnancy is healthy and viable. Any earlier and you may not see a heartbeat yet but this doesn't mean it's not viable, but the waiting and worrying in between scans is pointless, wait another 2/3 weeks

Sorry for your loss. Are you planning on going private for the early scan? I only ask, because when I had my last MC at the EPU, they said that they'd do an early scan for me. They said my GP would need to refer me there at 7-8 weeks. I don't know if its because I'm older, had 2 losses or what, but it might be worth asking your GP if they could refer you for an early scan, then only go private if they wont refer. best of luck.

I had one at 7+2 and could clearly see the heartbeat.

Thank you everyone for your replies, one midwife I saw when I had the miscarriage did say she would arrange for me to be scanned early but I haven't called and spoken to her yet (she said from 6weeks). The Gp I have seen and midwife that called to book my booking appt said it's not possible unless there are complications (or unless there have been three consecutive losses) so potentially we may pay for one. I don't want to go too early as understand what will be will be but it's hard to not worry!

I had an early one via nhs (5 wks) and then a private one at 8. For piece of mind I would say go for it.

Congratulations!

After a previous miscarriage I had a scan at 8 weeks at my local Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit. I contacted them myself directly during the miscarriage the first time and the lady who scanned me said when I was next pregnant to contact them directly when I was 7/8 weeks and they would give me an early reassurance scan.
Does your local hospital or one near to you have that kind of department? If so I would skip the midwife and GP and contact the EPAU directly. Explain what happened previously and I’m sure they’ll get you seen around the 7/8 week mark.
They typically like to wait until then as that’s when they can see more than just a yolk sack and there is a heartbeat etc.

I wouldn’t bother personally. I had a missed miscarriage discovered at the 11 week scan (HB stopped at 7 weeks) so the next pregnancy I paid for two early scans at 6 and 7 weeks, both showed a strong heartbeat so I was happy and thought everything would be ok. Went to the 12 week scan and the heartbeat had stopped at 9 weeks... It made me even more devastated because I was convinced everything would be ok after the private scans.

When I got pregnant again I waited till 13 weeks for a scan and thankfully everything was ok.

I had a scan today at 6+3, however is measured at 5+6, and there was a good heartbeat. I have a history of miscarriage, so when I found out I was pregnant my GP referred me straight to EPAU. I have another scan in 3 weeks. Maybe speak to them and see what they suggest. Congratulations and Good luck.
