So confused - twins?! Hcg levels

Happy Sunday!! I come for advice, again! I’ve had a turbulent time recently TTC. I miscarried a 2 week pregnancy and came on my period on 4th January. Hcg levels were v low (5) (had blood tests) and the pregnancy was not viable however still tested positive on clear blue.

Anyways.....since then I have still had no AF but been feeling really tired! On 13th Feb I did a clear blue which stated ‘not pregnant’. I still hadn’t come on AF and so went to the doctors on A week later on the 21st February due to low energy levels. Doc did PT and said it was negative as well but sent me for a blood test so see what was going on. I went on the 21st, the same day, and had bloods. Called the docs on Monday 24th and doc said I had low iron and that they wanted a retest on Serum Brown as test came came positive for Hcg. Went for a retest for Hcg levels on Thursday and still haven’t got results!

ANYWAY on Saturday I took a Lloyd’s PT which came back v strong 2 lines, and then a clear blue test which said Pregnant 3+ weeks!!!!!!!!

Here lies the confusion, only 8 days previous had the docs pregnancy test showed negative. How can I go from negative to 3+ weeks in 8 days?! Has anyone had anything like this before? I’m so confused! I’ve read that high Hcg is a sign on twins early on! Thank you 😊 any experiences are appreciated!

Hi OP,

We're just moving your thread over to pregnancy, but let us know if you'd like it in conception. Flowers

How far along would you make yourself in your dates? I think the 3+ on clear blue picks up levels over 2700 or something like that. So over 5 weeks ish

Firefly22 · 01/03/2020 17:31

Well The first date of my last period was 4th January, I usually have longer periods anyway but guessed my ovulation date (well the app Flo said) it was around 27th January. 🤔

Maybe try another brand of test just to be sure?

Firefly22 · 01/03/2020 18:17

@MsChatterbox which others tell you how far along you are do you know? I’ve done a clear blue and a Lloyd’s x

@Firefly22 that would put you - going from ovulation at about 6 weeks pregnant I think so 3+ weeks would be showing in clear blue for a singleton pregnancy.

MoStew18 · 01/03/2020 18:21

Hi @Firefly22 congratulations on your pregnancy 💕 and sorry to hear about your loses.... all woman's HCG levels are completely different in early pregnancy... and the clear blue indicator isn't that accurate to determine how far along you are because it works with the level of HCG in your urine... my midwife said should take them with a pinch of salt because all woman's levels are different... however still doesn't stop the possibility of twins... but you won't be able to determine that without a scan.... Hope that's helped... wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy x

MoStew18 · 01/03/2020 18:23

@Firefly22 also having such a strong pregnancy test is hopefully a good sign of a strong pregnancy for you... I took a clear blue digital one day after missed AF and came out 2-3 weeks... I was so confused because i thought I knew when I ovulated... had my bloods taken and my HCG was just high. X

MsChatterbox · 01/03/2020 18:54

Oh sorry thought you just did Lloyd's! Congrats 😁😁. Do you think you will book an early scan?

Firefly22 · 01/03/2020 19:05

@MoStew18 thanks for this. Ahhh okay yes to suddenly go from negative result to a positive of 3+ in 8 days is a pretty big jump!! I always wondered about hCG levels and then varying but didn’t know they could shoot up so much in such little time! It’s a minefield 🙈

@MsChatterbox oooo I haven’t thought about that - yes I probably would as I’m so impatient and OH would probably need to see it to believe it 😂

@Firefly22
I did that this time last year. Now holding my almost 5 month old dd.
I had a miscarriage in the November before and also hadn’t had a AF.
Doctors kept saying I could only been a couple of weeks pregnant, but I started to bleed again, so got sent for any early scan and was 8 weeks.
I they say you are more fertile after a miscarriage, but I don’t know why it kept coming up negative when it should of been positive.

Firefly22 · 01/03/2020 19:33

@Em39ma thank for your reply 😊 and sorry to hear about your mc 😞 if you don’t mind me asking, how long since your mc bleed and your scan had it been?

I had the miscarriage end of October beginning of November. Stopped bleeding about the beginning of December.
Mine lasted awhile as my hcg was dropping very slowly, then went up again, then back down.
I had hcg bloods taken again in the January about the 28/29th and my hcg was 7 and negative hpt. By the 13th February was getting positive hpt strong results too. On the 7th match started spotting and had the scan the same day. They said by dates 4 maybe 5 weeks. Then the found a 8 week pregnancy.
Sorry for the info over load. I know I was looking for some to tell me it had happen to them, when I was going through it.

Firefly22 · 02/03/2020 20:03

@Em39ma what a tough time! I bet you didn’t know what was going on!!! I’ve had the doctors call today and confirm pregnancy 😊 got an appointment with the antenatal nurse on Wednesday so I’m excited to get some clarity!!

I'm so confused 🤔. Had a spot of blood end of August was going on holiday in September the 4th so prosumed I would get my period on holiday but it never came. Now end of September and no period again. I had obstetric colastatis with my one who is now 9 years old. which means if I ever get pregnant it will come back again. Feel so sick 🤮 every day starts around 2pm or 3pm goes on all night calms down about 8 but still feel sick but no where as bad as between 2 and 8 that bad that I can hardly move like motion sickness the last time I had that was when I had obstetric colastatis when pregnant before. Have 2 sets of twins from my mum's side my grandmas sisters and her cousins where both twins. Done 5 pregnant tests and all negative 3 clear. Blue one digital and 2cgh test all negative. Randomly feel energy and takes away sicky feeling when eat pickled onions. Doctors say because I've just turned 42 and 5 negative test that are rulling out pregnancy so does anyone know why I'm getting so I'll between 2 and 8 pm xx so so confused
