Does anyone have any experience with pros/cons of water births?? 🙂

Pros for me were
It eased pain
Was more relaxing
Very calming

Cons
Can only have certain pain meds in the water
Can slow labour down which it did for me
Not as warm as a bath I would have at home
Stop you dilating which it did for me

Although I have some cons am still planning on a water birth this time round the do now advise not to get into water so early so 5 to 6 cm is earliest you should ideally get in as it can slow labour down so this time am holding g out to 6cm at least

Hope this helps

Had one 4.5 years ago with DD and loved it. Hopefully having another one in the next two weeks when DS arrives.
Got in at 6cm and progressed well. Delivered a 9lb baby who I’m not sure would’ve come out as well on dry land. The water was so soothing for me that I didn’t even need gas and air until transition.

Cons - no perineal support but I only had a second degree tear despite this.

I thought I would have one... got in, it wasn't for me lol.
I felt so hot (this was the middle of summer that prob didn't help) I felt hot and uncomfortable so didn't stay in it long!
Was so different to what I expected as I live in the bath when pregnant lol

Only pros, no cons here! Had a pool in my bedroom at home, it was an amazing experience. I felt like it was the right place for me to be in, I could get into whatever position felt right whenever I wanted, and I felt supported by the water which was lovely. I had gas and air too but that was more to help my breathing, it was the water that helped so much. Amazing, looking forward to doing it again with my second. If you've any specific questions just ask! X

Pros: lovely and warm, relaxed me (I usually freak out in baths.. may have had something to do with the entonox though lol), DS was calm when born.

Cons: literally didn't want to get out, climbing in/out at 9cm dilated with constant contractions and afterwards was hard, tore pretty badly.

I was going to have one with DD but didn't have time to have one. Started pushing 10 mins after I got to hospital. Neither of us were prepared, but I barely tore, and was fine laying down. Poor student midwife who delivered her was told to ignore what she'd been taught, she needed to listen to me. Good job she did, coz she wouldn't have been ready to catch the baby 😂 poor girl.
