Hi guys I have the health visitor coming to my house next week and I'm feeling really nervous and have no idea why she is coming or what to expect or even if I need to prepare anything like the babys cot and room? I was planning on having it decorated and done in the next two weeks any way but not sure if I should rush it through thank you in.advance for any advice xx

You don't have to have anything prepared for HV.
Relax, they just come to introduce themselves and give you some useful advice. But other than that your house doesn't need to be professionally cleaned or nursery done.

You don't need to do anything. The visit is to introduce herself and talk through the service they will provide after baby is born. She'll talk you through the 'little red book' which is like babies first medical record that you'll use to track vaccinations and weighs etc. She will ask your thoughts on sleeping arrangements etc and sign post you to information websites and support groups. It's really very helpful - don't panic!

I’m a HV and antenatal visits are actually my favourite out of all the visits we doSmile In my trust we mainly do them to get to know you and for you to get to know us/the service. We make you aware of local groups and our hubs and also talk a bit about responsive parenting, breastfeeding, safe sleep and baby brain development. I never give too much info because it can be a bit overwhelming and we repeat a lot of it at the new birth visit anyway. Don’t worry about cleaning or anything like that, I usually just take a quick glance across the room I’m in to make sure it’s not a pig sty / dangerous but day to day mess such as clothes, baby toys etc is very normal. Hope that helps x
