Painful to poop?

Hi ladies

Sorry if this is TMI, I’m 24 weeks and just started to feel it’s extremely painful to poop? I didn’t think I was constipated but sometimes I just have a very hard time going to the bathroom, to the point I am panicked I can’t go? It hurts and feels impossible to pass?

Not taking any medication that could cause this so don’t really know if I should take a laxative or some kind of tummy relaxant all the time? Or is this just another thing to deal with when it happens? Any advice welcome. Thank you x

Sounds like hard stools - which you want to get a handle on before full constipation sets in!

Fybogel is a good one to take regularly - it’s a sachet and helps push stuff through.

Lactulose is also safe in pregnancy and helps make it easier to go if no luck with fybogel.

Adding in things to help with bowels to your diet like lots of fibre/dates/fresh orange juice with bits is also something to make sure you do in the meantime.

I'm 25 weeks and have suffered with constipation all of my life so trust me i get it ! As I can't take anything to make me go (having loose poo or diarrhea can set you into early labour sometimes) I've found fresh orange juice with the bits in really helps me go, if not try a hot tea or lots of high iron and fibre foods xx
