Early Scan - 7+3 - Baby measuring small at 6mm (6+1?)

Hello,

(Apologies if you've already seen my previous post which is the same).

Yesterday I went to my first scan at my fertility clinic where I had IUI. I am 7 weeks and 3 days pregnant. I was told that the baby has a heartbeat but is currently only measuring at 6mm which is still within range but at the bottom end of the range. I think 6mm is around 6w 1day?

They've asked us to go back in 2 weeks to see if the baby has grown at all. But have been told to 'prepare ourselves'.

Has anyone been through this and can you tell me your outcome? I know we won't know until in two weeks. I'm trying not to over worry. I miscarried last year and hate the thought of going through this again.

Thank you in advance .. x

I didn't have fertility treatment but I did go for a scan at what I thought was 7+5 but baby only measured 6+1 (with a heartbeat).
By the time I had my dating scan, baby had caught up by a week and I'm now 15+3.

I don't know the ins and outs of how or why this happens, I just know it can happen.

Good luck OP. Hoping you get a good outcome too x

@sel2223 Thank you so much for your response. That is really helpful. And reassuring. I'm hoping it will be the same for me. x

I've written a very similar post and lots of people have had the same experience and everything was fine, they say once they see a heartbeat the chance of miscarriage is 10% so that's a 90% of success

LetMeIn321 · 23/02/2020 17:35

@katsotti Thank you so much for your reply. I've just been to look on your thread that you mentioned and it's so helpful to hear others have had this experience and then had a positive outcome. When I asked the midwife who did the scan if anyone else had their baby measured as small as ours and then had a positive outcome, she said 'erm let me think .. erm possibly one person yes'. Which then worried me even more. So I'm really glad to read of others experiences where it went well. Thank you x

I just wanted to update as I didn't want to leave the thread incomplete. Today I went for my scan. They told me that at my last scan 2 weeks ago, the baby actually measured 3.6mm (not 6mm like they told me) so I was measuring at 5weeks pregnant when I was 7weeks and 3days. The good news is the baby has grown (is now 16mm) and still has a strong heartbeat. The baby is measuring 1 week behind so this could be because it implanted late. So although I'm 9weeks 3days, the baby is measuring 8weeks and 1day but all looks fine. So all seems ok right now, and we are delighted although still in shock as we wasn't expecting good news..! Thank you for your messages and support on this post. X

Hi @LetMeIn321 I have been following your thread, congratulations on the good news :) I am in the same predicament as you.

I am 100% sure of my dates and was gutted to measure around 5 weeks when I was 7 weeks. I had a scan last week too (at 9 weeks) and measured 8 weeks so the baby is catching up. But is is hard to not worry about what is going on.

How are doing now? Do you have more scans booked or is your next scan at 12 weeks? Xx

LetMeIn321 · 09/03/2020 20:23

@cinderrose thank you! I know it is so difficult isn't it because you can help but worry.
I have my first appointment with the midwife next week and will have my next scan in around 3-4 weeks. It was such a relief to see the baby had grown. It seems our situations are very similar. When we went back last week she said I had been measuring at 5 weeks, when I was 7weeks 3 days. Now I'm 10 weeks and measuring at 8weeks 3 days. But it could be late implantation that makes the difference. Do you have another scan booked? x

@LetMeIn321 We are very similar! I had early reassurance scans as I had a miscarriage last year but really the scans have made me more anxious because of the measurements.

I am going to book a scan for next week when I should be 10+5 as I would like to have the harmony test. I just hope this little one keeps catching up and measures closer to my dates over the coming weeks. Let me know how you get on and best of luck with your next scan x

LetMeIn321 · 10/03/2020 21:53

@cinderrose Yes, same here. I miscarried last year, so was already feeling anxious. The early scan made me so much more anxious. It's a requirement from the clinic but we have been discharged from them now. So the next scan is with the NHS. Let's hope they both keep up with their growing. Good luck with your next scan! x

Hi @LetMeIn321 I was wondering how you were doing?

Unfortunately we had bad news last week, we discovered the baby had stopped growing probably not long after the last scan.

Hoping you have had better news and better luck than us xx

LetMeIn321 · 31/03/2020 10:33

@cinderrose Hi there, I'm so sorry for your loss. It's just awful isn't it. I did comment on my other threads and thought I'd commented on this one but must have missed it.
I did go for a scan at 9.5 weeks and was told the baby was measuring at 8+1 but they were happy with that. On week 11 I had a bit of brown discharge. I called my fertility clinic and they said it's very common and most likely nothing to worry about but they booked me in for a scan anyway to be on the safe side. Unfortunately at that scan we were told the babies heart had stopped beating. And the baby was still measuring at 8 weeks. It was really heartbreaking. I then had to go to hospital to have another scan to confirm this and they booked me in for a medical management for the following Monday. So I went for that last week. I'm sorry we've both had such a sad experience. X

Oh I am really sorry to hear that @LetMeIn321, truly sorry. I was hoping you might have had a better outcome. We had almost identical experiences. I made it to 10.5 weeks pregnant but baby had stopped growing around 8 weeks. It's a lot to process after seeing the developments and heartbeat. Hope you are looking after yourself, and that we are both more fortunate next time xx

LetMeIn321 · 02/04/2020 10:11

@cinderrose Thank you. I'm sorry, It is so hard isn't it when you've seen their little heart beating and their body forming. It's so difficult. It's hard to make sense of how it just stopped. Yes, I really hope we are both more fortunate next time. Take good care of yourself. xx

With my first pregnancy I had THREE early pregnancy scans ( because pregnancy anxiety is SO REAL) 😩!!

With my first scan I was certain I ovulated really early . I was 6+4 and was expecting to be 7+4. Well when I went for my scan I was 6+1 and got really worried .

THREE days later I bled a bit and went back for another scan . Everything was great 😅 and I was showing 7+4 🤷‍♀️! So I jumped ahead quite a bit in three days .

Then at 10 weeks I had another scan and I was showing 11 weeks.

At my nhs 12 week scan I was also showing a week ahead , which is what I suspected .

Hope that helps a bit . Early pregnancy scans are not that accurate with dating a pregnancy . In my case I didn’t see accuracy until 10 weeks .
