Hi all,

So have my NCT classes starting Tuesday and the teacher has emailed asking if there is anything inparticular we want to learn about.
She has her own agenda but wants to know if anything we want to specifically learn about.

To anyone that's been is there anything you would say would be invaluable to know about?

On our NCT course we did a whole session (4 hours) on breastfeeding, I thought it was overkill at the time but in hindsight found it really useful when it came to getting to grips with feeding (understanding latch, different positions to try, understanding cluster feeding, etc)

Thank you!
Breastfeeding is definitely one I want to touch on in detail.

What happens when you go into theatre. Our practitioner made us do role play, each standing where a theatre medic would be. It was very useful when I unexpectedly ended up in theatre knowing that many people was normal

Ask about complications after birth, blood transfusions, retained placentas etc

It might not be the same at all of them but I found ours was really helpful for planning the 'perfect' birth but when it came to it and I ended up with everything but, ending in an emergency c-section I felt really unprepared and like I didn't know anything...like I said, might not be all branches but I'd definitely try and get some advice on the unplanned too.
Wishing you all the best for your new arrival!

YY to a lot about breastfeeding (including how it can be tricky), and with that the logistics of bottle feeding.

My course wasn't NCT, but the leader knew the local hospital really well so was able to explain their processes and what to expect in a less rose-tinted way than the midwives, which was useful.

Ask for the basics on bottle feeding and combined feeding. They might not oblige as it's NCT, but it would have been really helpful for us as I just assumed breastfeeding would work out and was clueless (and 2 weeks post having a baby, in hospital because it's lost too much weight is not when you want to start having to figure it all out).

What the Dads can do to be helpful.
