I think I'm pregnant, but I'm not getting BFPs

Hi everyone,

I had ovulation confirmed on 3rd Feb via transvaginal and abdominal ultrasound, which means I was expecting my period somewhere between 14-19th Feb. It's not arrived, and all I'm getting are BFNs.

Has anyone ever had this? Not where you think you've ovulated but then it turned out to be later than you thought, but when you have had it confirmed like this and not got a BFP? I really feel pregnant (nausea on and off, loads of saliva in my mouth, soft cervix, watery discharge). I can't find anything on the internet :(

What tests are you using? Have you used a FRER?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 22/02/2020 17:55

You're still only 2 days late though....

Id say wait a while longer and test with a FRER. All the best! x

sucha · 22/02/2020 17:56

Just wait 🤷‍♀️

iRawra · 22/02/2020 18:24

@bluemoon2468 I've used 2 FRERs already, nada :( I've also been using early clearblues and early test strips from one-step on Amazon :) should've got my period 19-21 DPO right?

@Letsallscreamatthesistene I have 35ish day cycles usually but I suppose you're right if my cycle was a little off this month and I implanted late/had a longer luteal phase. I just thought luteal phases couldn't be longer than 16 or 17 days as the corpus luteum would break down and cause a period? According to the ultrasound I ovulated 19-21 days ago (had ultrasound on 3rd Feb but she said it could've been anywhere within the last 48 hours) and I'm just really worried I'm pregnant and something is wrong which is why it's not showing up with any HcG.

@sucha lol, not much else I can do... Although I'm worried that something is wrong. Like, I should have either come on or be getting a positive at 19-21DPO shouldn't I?

If you ovulated 3rd Feb and you're using FRERs I'd say it's very unlikely you're pregnant unfortunately. Personally I got my BFP at 7DPO on a FRER, and it was very clear. I know that's really early, but if you're 20DPO I'm not sure it would be possible to have not had a positive test yet if you were pregnant. Even if you had implantated, your HCG levels would have to be rising extremely slowly to have not have had even a faint line yet, meaning that the viability of the pregnancy would be very unlikely. I think the most likely reason though is that you're not pregnant, and your period is late for some other reason. I would visit your GP.

@bluemoon2468 I did visit my GP and they did a urine test which I knew would be negative as I'd done one that morning. Other than that they told me it is weird I've had no period and told me to wait. They said some ladies don't show positive on tests and while it's not common it's not unheard of. Praying I'm one of them, hence the thread to see if anyone else has ever had that. The doctor said one of the nurse practitioners there had experienced it.

Sometimes cycles can be weird and you can go from having a regular 28 day to having a random 36 day cycle thrown in there. All you can do is wait it out and see. I think that if you were pregnancy a FRER would have picked it up by now - they’re very sensitive

iRawra · 23/02/2020 13:37

@Prettylittlelady I know it can vary majorly. I'm usually around 35 days and ovulate around CD20-21. I've had a couple anovulatory cycles since TTC which slightly worried me but I knew it was fairly normal. Doctor said cycle can differ majorly in the follicular stage before ovulation, but after ovulation it can only be a maximum of 16 possibly 17 days before getting a period or being pregnant. This stage does not vary hugely each month as your body has its own rules that your corpus luteum follows before it breaks down and causes your period. I don't have either my period or a positive and they/I know I've ovulated :/ it's so weird but all they can do for me is get me to wait. Won't do anything else until I've missed 2 periods. I'm worried it's a MMC.

I didn't find out I was pregnant until I had the results back from a blood test on Friday after two missed periods. I've never missed a period in my life!

I still need to find out how far along I actually am, but if we assume that I got pregnant on my second cycle (after my first missing period) then I got a very faint squinter at 21DPO.

iRawra · 23/02/2020 18:41

@BabyDancer this gives me a bit of hope. I've literally gone right off my food and nothing ever puts me off food! I'll just keep testing until something happens or I get to when I would be 6.5 weeks and I'll get a private scan as I know doctor's won't give me one.

@iRawra it's up to you, but I really wouldn't waste your money on a private scan if you haven't had a positive pregnancy test! There will be nothing there, I'm really sorry there just won't be. People miss periods all the time for a variety of reasons that are unrelated to pregnancy 😕

Jodie567 · 23/02/2020 18:58

I'm don't want to fill you with false hope but, i was getting negative test until i was 2 weeks late! I finally got my positive it was so faint and pregnancy had to be confirmed by blood test.

Fingers crossed for you!

iRawra · 23/02/2020 19:20

@bluemoon2468 like the doctor said, some people never get BFPs. I'm trying to relax so that if AF is coming, she can come on her own accord without any stress holding her back. A scan may end up being the only way for me to know if I am or if I am not if she doesn't come. If I am and it is ectopic, could help me save my tube or ovary. I have Chlamydia antibodies which was the only abnormality of my entire sub-fertility checks so some likelihood of blocked tubes of which I'm awaiting a HSG. Even if it costs a lot to see nothing, I'd rather pay it and possibly save my tubes if something is wrong, or just know that nothing is happening. Might also be a MMC of which I need a D+C etc, or very rare but a molar pregnancy.

@Jodie567 thanks for your story. I'm going to keep testing and see if anything comes up
